LEGO Releases Final Statement Regarding LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) Cancellation

LEGO has released their final statement regarding the cancellation of the LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) on the LAN. It didn’t change much from the previous announcement although there have been some functionality issues regarding the gears during the reviews of the set. LEGO said that did not factor into the cancellation.

On another note, LEGO is discussing with BrickLink to have the Osprey listed in the catalog but will be not listed for sale. This is purely to keep the database updated as much as possible. More details of this will be shared later on.

The decision not to launch the LEGO Technic V-22 Osprey was made solely due to the fact that the set breached our policy of not creating real military vehicles. There were no other factors that influenced the decision in any way.

This is just a quick update to say we are discussing with Bricklink about having 42113 included in the catalog but not listed for sale. It should be noted that Las Vegas (Early Version with Mandalay Bay Hotel) was only added to the catalog after 2+ years had passed, so we might not be able to add 42113 immediately. We will share more details once we have aligned with the Bricklink team.

LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) Cancelled Due to Faulty Parts?

A week ago, LEGO announced that the upcoming LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) will be cancelled for release due to it featuring a military vehicle even though this version was a search and rescue plane. A few lucky individuals were able to get one from their local shop and it may seem that there could be another reason why it was cancelled. A user over on Reddit showed a few images of their set and explained that some of the gear pieces became damaged with extended use. As you can see from the image below, the teeth on the gears are all bent compared to the undamaged part. Coincidentally, Huw over on Brickset released his review of the set today and the same issue was with his copy as well.

Connecting the dots, it may seem that there was more in play for the Osprey cancellation other than the reasons stated in the official comment. If it was due to a faulty part, it would make sense to cancel everything and release at another time when the issue is fixed. LEGO said that they will be making another formal statement soon so we’ll see what is actually going on.

LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) Officially Cancelled

Yesterday, I reported that the upcoming release of the LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) was potentially cancelled and it looks like it has been confirmed. LEGO has just released a statement regarding the set which you can read below.

The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military. We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature real military vehicles, so it has been decided not to proceed with the launch of this product.

We appreciate that some fans who were looking forward to this set may be disappointed, but we believe it’s important to ensure that we uphold our brand values.

There are going to be some stores that have already received stock but LEGO Stores should never receive stock. Our sales teams have been in touch with their customers as well. I would expect a few mom and pop type shops to receive a shipment but larger retailers will be less likely.

The German Peace Society denounced LEGO for the release due to it being a military plane even though it was designed to be a search and rescue plane and there were protests scheduled in Germany because of it.

It’s pretty embarrassing on LEGO’s part with nobody speaking up during the design process that the Osprey was mainly used as a military plane. I’m … Continue

LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) Release Potentially Cancelled

There’s a new report this morning from Zusammengebaut that may affect the release of the upcoming LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113). Since the Osprey is based on a military vehicle, the German Peace Society has denounced LEGO for planning to release this set which was scheduled for August 1. LEGO’s version of the set is based on a search and rescue vessel, one without weapons.

The German Peace Society says LEGO cooperates with arms companies and plans to stage protests this week outside of three LEGO Brand Stores in Germany, including the flagship store in Berlin.

LEGO has released a statement regarding this issue on the Ambassador Network:

The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing Osprey V-22 was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts.

While our set depicts a rescue version of the plane, the aircraft is predominately used by the military. We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature military vehicles and in this case we have not adhered to our own internal guidelines.

As a result, we are currently reviewing our plans to launch this product on August 1.

As a result, the LEGO Technic Bell Boeing Osprey V-22 has been removed from LEGO Shop@Home and the release of the set could be cancelled even before it hits store shelves.
