Minifigures

For a fairly smaller set, it has a decent five minifigures included, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Victor Krum, and a Merperson. Harry has on a red sleeveless swimming shirt with his name printed on the back. His double-sided head shows him with gills after he ate the gillyweed and has a smile on one side and an angry expression on the other. He does have some flesh colored flippers to help him swim.

Hermione has on the standard Gryffindor robes. Her double-sided head shows her with a smile on one side and sleeping on the other.

Ron also has on the same Gryffindor robes and like Hermione, his double-sided head shows him with a smile on one side and sleeping on the other.

Victor Krum has on an olive green tank top with the Durmstrang emblem on the chest. His double-sided head is interesting as he has a regular smile on one side and the other shows the tongue of the shark. He does have a separate shark mold that goes on him for when he saves Hermione.

The Merperson is mostly sand-green in color and the torso shows a lot of the scales. Surpringly, the tail piece is just plain with no printing. Her double-sided head shows her with stern look on one side and an angry expression on the other. She does have a trident as an accessory.

Although not really a minifigure, there is a gindylow figures as well. It has more of a purple glitter coloring going on with it.

Build

The build features part of the pier where the contestants jump from as well as an underwater scene below. The pier doesn’t have much going on but there is a platform that allows minifigures to “dive” into the water. Simply flick on the pin in the back and the minifigures with tumble off.

Above that is a little spectator area with the clock tower. Inside the tower is a little kitchen area with some pots and cups.

The more detailed part of the build is the underwater Black Lake. There’s a nicely colored arch area that your eyes go to. In the middle of it, there are some bars to connect Ron and Hermione to for when they are captured and has to be rescued by Harry and Victor. The chains are a nice touch to simulate them being chained on to.

There’s also a little row boat included but it doesn’t really add to the build because unless you have a whole underwater scene built up, there’s no way to display it since it’ll be underwater. I feel the parts used for the boat could’ve been used elsewhere.

Results

Overall, the LEGO Harry Potter Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake (76420) is a very nice build that shows both above water and underwater scenes. The top part of the build isn’t too interesting but the water area looks great with the colors and the archway. The minifigure selection is also pretty good with five in a smaller set.
