LEGO San Diego Comic Con 2023 Recap

LEGO SDCC 2023

Just like that, San Diego Comic Con 2023 is now over but here’s a recap of the LEGO happenings during the four days. First off is the LEGO booth itself which they have named it LEGO Brickbuster Video. This is a play on the old Blockbuster Video stores. Throughout the store, there were displays of upcoming LEGO sets from various themes. On the shelves were VHS cassette cases featuring movies and themes in LEGO form.

The back wall named New Releases was filled with creations from fans. Some of the themes for the builds were unplanned and spontaneous such as the Spongebob ones and Pikachu ones. I was told that fans took inspiration from the builds that were already on the shelves and they made their own version.

There were also brick-build statues that fans could take pictures with. The builds were made to look like the old 2D cardboard cutouts that you could find at Blockbuster stores. Fans could take pictures with them and share to social media to get corresponding pins of them. The ones for this year were Captain America, Sonic the Hedgehog, and a speeder bike from Star Wars.

There was a Coming Attractions billboard showing some of the current and upcoming LEGO shows and specials. Some of the new shows coming soon include LEGO Masters: Holiday Bricktacular, LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red, LEGO Star Wars: Mandoween – Celebrate the Season, LEGO Masters: Season 4, LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest, and one confidential show that they never revealed. LEGO Ninjago SDCC 2023 Exclusive Riyu Revealed

At the LEGO Ninjago talent signing today at San Diego Comic Con 2023, Doc Wyatt on his social media showed off an exclusive LEGO Ninjago polybag that was given out to fans. The polybag features Baby Riyu (6484261) with glowing eyes which is different from the ones in the regular sets.

So far, none have surfaced yet on the secondary market but do expect it to be a bit pricey when it does. There’s also a small chance that this is just a pre-release figure and will be in sets in the future like with the Bard from The Hobbit many years back.

LEGO Booth Signings at SDCC 2023

We’ve already talked about some of the happenings at San Diego Comic Con 2023 for LEGO but it looks like there’s more that has been revealed. Doc Wyatt from the LEGO Ninjago team has posted a graphic showing some of the panels including the LEGO: I Had a DREAMZzz Last Night About Ninjago! and LEGO Masters: Behind the Brick but it looks like there’s some signings for the panels as well for each of the three “themes.”

There’s no word yet on whether they are ticketed signings where you have to get a wristband or if they’re just first-come, first served at the LEGO booth.

LEGO: I Had a DREAMZzz Last Night About Ninjago! Panel at SDCC 2023

The Thursday panel schedule for San Diego Comic Con 2023 is now live and there will be one for LEGO which is the LEGO: I Had a DREAMZzz Last Night About Ninjago! As expected, LEGO will be showcasing their newest IP, LEGO DREAMZzz, which includes some of the voice actors for the show. In addition, LEGO Ninjago will be there as well for Ninjago: Dragons Rising so instead of it having a dedicated panel like with previous years, it’ll be a combined one so there won’t be that much time to go in depth since probably each show will only get about 20 minutes of details with some time left over for the Q&A.

The panel will be held on Thursday, July 20 from 10:30-11:30am in Room 6BCF. Of course, I will be in attendance I’ll most likely be doing the live post as I have done in previous years. You can follow me on Twitter or on Threads for that. Hopefully, I have time to juggle between the two.

Learn all about LEGO DreamZzz, a new content IP that launched in May. The panel will be hosted by Keith Malone (head of entertainment development for the LEGO Group) along with voice talent Sarah Jeffery (Zoey), Marcos Cardenas (Mateo), Vincent Tong (Logan, Kai), Brian Drummond (Mr. Oz, Nightmare King, Ras, Riyu, Lobbo), and Larissa Dias (Izzie), as well as DreamZzz LEGO model designer Freddy Charters, head of LEGO production Asa Tait, and Doc Wyatt and Kevin Burke, head writers of Ninjago Dragons Rising.
