LEGO The Hobbit Attack of the Wargs (79002) Review

Continuing our Hobbit set reviews, today we review one of the more interesting sets in the line, Attack of the Wargs (79002). This along with the other sets are scheduled to be released November 27, 2012 but I found them at Walmart after Black Friday. This set contains 400 pieces and retails for $49.99, which comes to $0.12/piece. You get one instruction booklet, three numbered bags, and two separately bagged Wargs.

LEGO The Hobbit Gandalf The Grey Polybag (30213) Found

An image of a new The Hobbit polybag has surfaced on eBay just a week after the Mirkwood Elf Guard hit the shelves at Toys R Us. A seller by the name of bucaroo is selling the new 31 piece The Hobbit Gandalf The Grey Polybag (30212) in lots of 10.

From what we can see, it is the same Gandalf minifigure as the ones we’ve seen in previous sets, which is pretty disappointing. His accessories include his staff and a map. There is also a rock formation with a torch with a spear and a sword as well as a skull and a spider on the side. We’re not sure where the selling got the polybags from or what retail store(s) will be selling this polybag yet, but my bet is that it might be at TRU stores in the near future.

LEGO The Hobbit Escape From Mirkwood Spiders (79001) Review

The LEGO The Hobbit Escape From Mirkwood Spiders (79001) is the second smallest set in the Hobbit line. It contains 298 pieces and retails for $29.99 which is $0.10/piece. This set is one of the two Special The Hobbit Trilogy Preview Sets along with the Barren Escape (79004). The reason is because the scenes in these particular sets are not in An Unexpected Journey, but in the next movie, The Desolation of Smaug. The set contains two numbered bags and one instruction booklet.

LEGO The Hobbit Riddles For The Ring (79000) Review

I was at Walmart the day after Black Friday to see what was available in the LEGO section. To my surprise, I saw a pallet stocked with a few of the new Hobbit sets so I grabbed what I could, find including the first set in the series, Riddles For The Ring (79000). The set retails for $9.99 and consists of 105 pieces, about $0.10/piece. There are two un-numbered bags and one instruction booklet. In the back of the instruction book, you can also see all the minifigures in the Hobbit theme.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 10 Preview?

With the Series 9 LEGO Collectible Minifigures not even out yet, we might have some clues on what the Series 10 minifigures could be. Aanchir on Eurobricks has found out some new images of some pieces from Brickset’s parts database that didn’t fit into any current sets or any upcoming sets that we know about. Further along in the thread, you can see a few of the pieces assembled into their respective minifigures. Notice there is a 17th character in the listing with some speculation that one of the minifigures will be the free exclusive in the upcoming LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia. If this is true, these minifigs will be packaged in the gold polybags and will be released sometime in 2013.

My “Brick” Friday Experience

Black Friday at the LEGO Store

I arrived at the Fashion Valley LEGO Store in San Diego about 30 minutes before the “Brick” Friday midnight opening. The line wasn’t as long as I thought unlike the nearby stores that had lines of 50+ people waiting for their openings. While waiting, I had a nice, friendly chat with a few people about different LEGO sets and the state of LEGO at this point in time.

As the doors opened, there wasn’t a mad rush but I did see a lot of people grabbing the LEGO Star Wars 2012 Advent Calendar (9509)icon, which was 50% off, as well as the Winter Village Cottage (10229). I only had two items left on my list so far to purchase, the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Quinjet Aerial Battle (6869) and the LEGO Star Wars Palpatine’s Arrest (9526).

As the I checked out, the Quinjet was 10% off and I was given a chance to choose a scratch-off card for a discount on an item. I picked out a 10% card so that went towards Palpatine’s Arrest. As part of the promotion, I received the LEGO Christmas Holiday Set (3300014) for free. There was also a promotion for a Holiday Pick-A-Brick box but the cashier almost forgot about it and I had to ask for it.

Later in the morning, I was browsing on Amazon to see what was on sale on Black Friday. I found some books that had massive discounts and I’ve been wanting to get them. I purchased The LEGO Book, the LEGO Continue
