Maersk returns this year after a 12 year hiatus with the newest set, the LEGO Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel (40955). This version comes in at 1,516 pieces and retails for $149.99. It is only pieces less than the last one while being the same price.

Build
Like with every ship build, we have the arduous task of building the hull first. The first two bags are dedicated to the hull which is most made up of plates and stacking bricks so they are stabilized.

At the back, you connect another small section on for the propellor which add a couple more inches to the length of the ship.

Going into the ship, there’s a little area for the ship’s diesel engine in the comparment closest to the stern. You can see it a little through the windows on the left side. The opposite side of the ship has one of the better suprises of the set. There’s two panels that has the Maersk logo which are printed pieces and not stickers. You’ll find that this set uses less stickers than you may expect. You’ll find that out when you build the shipping containers.

Heading towards the middle of the ship, there are some slide-out gangways on each side. They are also connnected on ball-joints so you can angle it lower for the crew.

At the ship’s bow, there’s a very small cabin/bridge area that also includes a little kitchen. On the back wall, there’s a world map that uses one of the 14 stickers. Everything is covered up but you can pop off the light section and window panel to access it.

For the shipping containers, there are various bags that are dedicated to just building them. There are 22 of them with two different sizes. The containers also use printed tiles and not stickers like the previous Maersk ship.

Lastly we have the display stand that the Maersk ship can sit on. Of course we have the information plaque containing various facts about the ship. It is a large sticker so good luck trying to put this one on.

Results
Overall the LEGO Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel (40955) is a decent set if you like building ships. There really isn’t too much to it as the ship’s hull is very straight-forward. The most repetitive part of it are the shipping containers but at least they use printed tiles for the labels. The mini details like the engine and bridge are appreciated but they are hard to see after everything is built.

Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
