The main LEGO promotion for early June is The Lord of the Rings Grond (40893). You can only get it from June 1-7 with a purchase of Minas Tirith (11377) and I think it’s the perfect gift with purchase set to go with it.

Minifigures
The set does include two generic Orcs, one in red and one in olive green. The red one has silver metallic armor printing on both sides of the torso and legs. It has a double-sided head showing an evil smile on one side and an angry expression on the other. It does wear a helmet and has a machete as a weapon.

The green orc has a different style armor that is also metallic silver. Its double-sided head shows a stern look on one side and an angry snarl on the other. It’s accessory is a bow and arrow.

Build
The build consists of two separate smaller builds that combine towards the end. The first part is the wooden frame that holds the wolf. It has four pillars that had chains to hold up the wolf. There are wheels to roll it towards the Great Gate It is a little shorter than the source material as it had three sets of pillars. As a result, the wolf is also a little shorter.

The wolf itself has the overall look down to the open paws. The head is okay with the fire mouth but it looks more derpy than the menacing look that it’s supposed to have. That is because the way the eyes are designed. It’s more like it’s staring into space and not having snarling eyes.

The wolf is attached to the frame using four chains. There are handles on the side support beams that you can turn to push the wolf back and forth.

I haven’t built Minas Tirith yet but I’ve been told that Grond can’t actually reach the Great Gate as the plates of Minas Tirith block it unless you roll it up the plates.
Results
Overall, Grond (40893) is a good gift with purchase set that goes along with Minas Tirith (11377) but it is paywalled behind a $650 price tag. As it currently stands as of this post, it is priced from $150-$175 on the secondary market. If you don’t care about the GWP, you can sell it and bring the price of Minas Tirith down. Even with the paywall, the build is detailed enough for a smaller set and what a companion gift with purchase should be.

Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
