A new LEGO Collectible Minifigures set is coming January with the Animals Series 28 (71051). There are 12 characters to collect and will retail for $4.99 each. We’ve had costumed characters before but this Animal series is the first one to focus completely on them.

Like with the last few series of Collectible Minifigures, they are packaged in blind boxes. They still the scannable codes on the bottom of the boxes to identify them using various minifigure identifier apps. We received the gravity boxes for review which has the full set of 12.

Peacock
The peacock has a blue and turquoise color scheme with some yellow beak and legs. The arms are replaced with wings and there’s a large piece for the plumage which has some metallic printing on it. This is the same for the peacock hat as well. His double-sided head shows him with smiles on both sides. The accessory included is a sunflower.

Fluffy Cat
The Fluffy Cat is pretty plain with some fur printing on the front torso along with a heart collar. The tail piece has some texturing for the fur. Her double-sided head shows her with a sinister smile on one side and her sleeping on the other. The accessory is a ball of yarn.

Goldfish
The Goldfish looks more like a koi than your standard goldfish species. The torso and legs have some metallic printing for the scales and the arms are replaced with fins. The hat piece is a larger mold that also includes the tail. Her double-sided head shows her with a smirk on one side and a smile on the other. Her accessory is some fish food with a printed 1×1 round brick.

Monkey
Even though the Monkey is a very simple minifigure, it’s still one of my favorites from this wave. The torso doesn’t have much printing but the feet has some for the toes. The tail piece used is the rubber one. The double-sided head underneath the hat shows him with a mischievous look with a band-aid on one side and his tongue sticking out on the other. His accessories is, of course, a banana.

Frog
The Frog is my other favorite costume from this set. Again, there’s not too much printing on the torso but there are some spot detailing on the back, arms, and legs which are also dual molded. The hat showing the frog head works really well and the double-sided head shows him with a smile on one side and blowing bubbles on the other. His accessories includes a bottle of bubbles which is also a printed 1×1 round brick and brick-built bubble wand.

Koala
The Koala like with some of the other furry animals have minimal printing with only some fur on the front torso. The double-sided head shows him with a worried look on one side and him wearing a sleep mask on the other. His accessories include a green plant and a boomerang.

Dalmatian
The Dalmatian has the usual look with lots of spots on the head, torso, arms, and legs. It is probably the most detailed minifigure so far besides the Peacock and Goldfish. Also on the torso is a collar with a bone name tag. His double-sided head shows him with a smirk on one side and a tired expression on the other due to him chasing the printed Frisbee.

Crocodile
The Crocodile pretty much looks like the regular figure especially at the head. The torso doesn’t have much going on but the legs have some printing for the scales and toes. Like the Goldfish, the hat is one mold piece to go along with the tail. Her double-sided head shows her with a smile on one side and a winking expression on the other. Her accessories include a lifesaver and a rubber duck.

Dolphin
The Dolphin is pretty much the same minifigure as the Goldfish in terms of the torso and legs. The hat also has the tail piece connected to it. Her double-sided head shows her with a smirk on one side and wearing sunglasses on the other. The accessory included is a clamshell with a pearl inside.

Bunny
We’ve seen This costume characters before but the Bunny enters the fray. This new version has a tan color scheme with some white fur on the front and tail on the back. The hat is a more bulkier than the previous rabbits and the double-sided head shows a smile on one side and him winking on the other. His accessories include a printed egg and a basket.

Lion
Continuing with the theme of torsos with minimal printing, the Lion joins the list has there’s only some fur on the torso front. The legs do have some printing for its toes. The hat piece is an updated lion head which was first seen from Luna Lovegood from the Series 2 Harry Potter set from 2020. The double-sided head shows him with a smile on one side and him roaring on the other. His accessory is a chicken leg.

Parrot
The Parrot has the same body mold as the Peacock with the wings replacing regular arms. She does have some fur detailing but only on the front of the torso. The legs are dual molded but very plain. There are some red and blue fabric pieces for the parrot’s tail. Her double-sided head shows her with some eye makeup and shows her smiling on one side and yelling on the other. Her accessory is a bird food snack box that is printed.

Results
Overall the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Animals Series 28 (71051) is an okay set. Costumed characters are somewhat popular among fans but only if they’re done right. A whole wave of them could be overkill and may not be for everybody. The hats for the characters do look pretty good but a majority of them lack detailing. LEGO could’ve gave them a bit more printing on the torso backs and legs.
