LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures Series Coming in 2016?

There’s a very interesting rumor coming out of Eurobricks courtesy of none other than Just2Good. Over in the Series 14 topic, there was mentioning of a LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures Series coming in May 2016. This was also mentioned before on his April Fool’s post but nobody really took it seriously because it was April Fool’s Day.

This rumored Disney Collectible Minifigure Series is a really interesting theme since LEGO has been doing various Minifigures series based on different themes including The LEGO Movie, The Simpsons, and the upcoming the Series 14 Monsters (71010). There are a number of characters that could be used because of Disney’s vast collection of animated movies but one thing that was also mentioned was Pixar.

Another question that could be asked is if Marvel would be affiliated in the way distant future because Disney acquired Marvel back in 2009 and LEGO has already produced a lot of Marvel characters as minifigures. Many LEGO Marvel Super Heroes fans have been wanting a series of Marvel characters as Collectible Minifigures. I’m not saying that LEGO will be making a line for this but it’s certainly a possibility.

There’s so many questions to be asked out of this LEGO Disney CMF rumor but we’ll have to wait until next year to see if this is actually true or not. Again, this is just a total rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt for now but keep in mind that J2G has been a pretty reliable source of upcoming products.

Ok so I found out a while ago why LEGO hasn’t done many licensed LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series. It is not common knowledge but many licensed contracts state that LEGO can produce CONSTRUCTION Toys based on that license, while others (Mattel, Hasbro) can produce FIGURE Toys based on that license, all of this for retail of course, so excluding comic-con exclusives. LEGO Minifigures are considered FIGURE Toys, this is why they never have a minifigure polybag without a build (If it was meant for retail) The Simpsons and hopefully the Disney Contracts do not have this, but time will tell. You might want to research this and perhaps make a article about it, which I think will clear up why LEGO hasn’t already made Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, etc.

I’ve heard of that stipulation as well. Like you said, maybe there’s a deal with Disney that allows them to do this.

Megabloks had no issue doing blind packs of marvel figures.

They’d be in the minidoll style, like the already existing Disney sets right ? I’ll be passing if so.

Minidolls wouldn’t make sense with the CMF series. Remember, those are targeted at girls only while CMF series are aimed at everyone. And not all Disney minifigs have been minidolls. Don’t forget Toy Story.

With most of series 14 pics already seen, and these new rumors, I’m all ready for series 15 to come out, and i hope its a regular series.

That’s an unfortunate contract stipulation about Construction Toys versus Figure Toys. (I’ve heard it too, at least in Star Wars context.) I would love to see the research that indicates the two would cannibalize one another – I have to imagine those that collection action figures wouldn’t switch over to LEGO minifigures if they were available, but I’m not a market analyst. With the rise in popularity of minifigures, licensed properties, and now gaming figures (Dimensions), I’m crossing my fingers that some of the big licensees can pressure figure toy licensees to give some leniency and allow for this. With Disney owning Star Wars and Marvel, they have some HUGE IPs up their sleeves and could definitely throw their weight around to make this happen.

      Megabloks did it just fine
