LEGO Wicked Emerald City & Kiamo Ko Castle (75689)

Chugging along with our reviews of the LEGO Wicked sets, the next one we’ll be checking out is Emerald City & Kiamo Ko Castle (75689). The set has 860 pieces and retails for $89.99.

Minidolls

There are only two minidolls in the set which are Glinda and Elphaba. Glinda is technically a unique minidoll although the torso is the same one as in the Munchkinland set but she has the thinner dress piece instead of the larger one. Her accessory is a book of Oz that is filled with tables of spells.

Elphaba also looks the same as from the Munchkinland set except that the torso uses metallic silver and gold. She still has the shoulderpad piece like before. Her accessories include her broom and the Grimmerie.

Build

The build features minibuilds of the Emerald City and Kiamo Ko Castle from what LEGO describes as the ending of Wicked: For Good which I assume is where Glinda and Elphaba go their separate ways.

Emerald City has the iconic look and is mostly green with pearl-gold accents throughout. There’s also some transparent green some dome, head, and jewel pieces to give the green some variety.

At the entrance/balcony area, there’s a large sticker stained glass window. The back side of Emerald City is fully covered and not the facade style buildings that LEGO has been doing. In fact, there’s a secret compartment here that pulls out to reveal a map of Oz. They’re stickers but it’s a cool feature while making use of the space.

The sides of Emerald City have some hidden area that are actually good play features. The left side opens up to reveal some potions and a cabinet. On the adjacent side, there’s a pull down bed.

On the other side of Emerald City, it opens up to reveal Glinda’s bedroom. You have a shelf with a picture of her and Fiyero. The shelf below has a sticker for Nessarose’s Magic Slippers which eventually become the Ruby Slippers. The hinged section has a vanity with a stickered mirror.

For Kiamo Ko Castle, we have a total opposite color scheme with the grays and blacks. We do have some color with part of the Yellow Brick Road as well as the rainbow on the cloud.

We don’t really have a close up image of what Kiamo Ko Castle looks like but it does have a similar shape from the concept arts and clips from the trailer. There’s also the open area between the main castle and the towers up top.

Unlike Emerald City where there are hinges on the sides, Kiamo Ko Castle opens up right in the middle. Here we have an unassuming blank column but it is actually a secret hiding area that you can switch over using the splat piece in the back.

For the left hinged area, there’s a door leading to somewhere, over the rainbow maybe? On the right side, it’s pretty empty except for a barrel and some sort of green potion thing.

The next section up the tower is mostly blue with some plants inside. The top of the castle has a number of black spires and there’s a transparent clear bar that extends out for a winged monkey, possibly Chistery.

Results

The LEGO Wicked Emerald City & Kiamo Ko Castle (75689) is the first set from this wave that I was excited to build. It’s not a big set by any means and the builds are fairly small but both of them look good. I feel that Emerald City is a little bit of a better build than Kiamo City Castle with more details, especially the hidden pull out map from the back but both are nice display pieces if you don’t have a lot of space.
