LEGO Brand Store (40528) Set Revealed

In the past day, there have been reviews that have surfaced of a brand new LEGO Store (40528) set. It looks like the consensus is that you can get it for free starting next year with purchases of $125 when new LEGO stores are opened.

The store includes details that you can find in a real LEGO store such as the Pick-a-Brick wall, various stickered sets, the wooden duck, and what looks to be the Tree of Discovery which is seen in the New York flagship store.

It’s a decent niche set but a majority of you will probably never get it if it for store grand openings. You can usually check the LEGO store calendar to see which stores will be opening and hopefully there’s one that will be opening near you.

Last Few Days for Retiring LEGO Sets – December 2021

It’s about a day and a half left until the new year rolls around and that means there will be brand new LEGO sets available for purchase on the LEGO Shop. That unfortunately also means that older sets will be rotated out as they will be retired. There will still be some time to purchase them but note that once they are listed as sold out/retired, they won’t be available again, at least on the LEGO Shop. If the listing says temporarily out of stock, there might still be some on the way but it won’t be that many. You can probably still find them at other retailers as well as on the secondary market. LEGO has overhauled their Retiring Soon soon page and there’s nothing listed but the list below is what is presumed to be the sets that will be gone soon.

LEGO Ideas NASA SR 71 Blackbird Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The NASA SR 71 Blackbird by BrickerBeard is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The 1,650 piece build features one of the most recognizable strategic reconnaissance aircrafts to be made until its last retirement by NASA in 1999. The project also proposes minifigures of pilot Ed Schneider and the navigator Marta Bohn-Meyer.

The project now joins Land Ahoy, Terrariums, Great Coral Reef, Hyrule Castle 30th Anniversary, Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Avatar Returns, Clockwork Solar System, The Dojo, Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage, Naruto: Ichiraku Ramen Shop, Motorized Johnny 5, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), The LEGO Emergency Box, LEGO Rubik’s Cube (Working), and Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 99th Precinct, Steampunk Explorers, Moominhouse ムーミン屋敷, Castle Outpost, Downtown Records, The Meeting Point, LEGO Ghibli, Baba Yaga, Soyuz Rocket, Orchid, Pirate Tavern, Riverside Scholars, Union Pacific “Big Boy”, Magic Bookends, Stargate, McDonald’s Franchise 1955-1969, Asterix the Gaul, and The Three Investigators – The Headquarters as the ones to reach the Third 2021 Review Stage.

BrickLink Designer Program Sheriff’s Safe (910016) Design Issue

For those who purchased the BrickLink Designer Program Sheriff’s Safe (910016), there is a design issue with the set that you need to be aware of. The fan designer has noted that LEGO/BrickLink has decided to change one of the required Technic pins which makes the locking mechanism not work on the set which is a major problem since that’s the point of a safe, to lock things up.

Included in the set are 10x 32002 1 1/2 M CONNECTING BUSH but you actually need 4274 CONNECTOR PEG W. KNOB. If you’ve built any LEGO set that has pins, you most likely will have some spare pieces laying around but you may want to contact LEGO Customer Service and explain what happened to get them replaced. I haven’t received my set yet but hopefully it is fixed before it ships out.

IMPORTANT – SHERIFF’s SAFE OWNERS PLEASE READ There’s a small but fatal mistake in the building instructions, that makes the lock NOT work. See the attached image for instructions on how to fix this! It’s caused by 10x Technic 3/4 pins (32002) in the lock mechanism. These were suppose to be Technic 1/2 pins (4274), but for some reason Bricklink has replaced them. I will contact Bricklink and urge them to correct this mistake. To be continued…

LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone (21331) Officially Announced

LEGO has officially revealed the next LEGO Ideas set to be released with the Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone (21331). Releasing on January 1, the set has 1,125 pieces and will retail for $69.99/£59.99/€69.99/119.9 AUD/89.99 CAD.

The original idea by Viv Grannell was supposed to be based on Sonic Mania’s version of the Green Hill Zone but instead we’re getting the original Sonic version of the stage. The main difference here is the original project had the Death Egg Robot which is the mech but instead, the set includes the Egg Wrecker. I’m not sure why the change as fans voted for Sonic Mania and not the Sonic 1 but I guess Sonic Mania isn’t as well known as the original.

Note that the set includes some pins on the side so you can get multiples of the set and add on to it to create a large Green Hill Zone. Also, the Sonic minifigure has been slightly updated from 2016.

LEGO Year of the Tiger (40491) Official Images

Last month, we got our first look at the upcoming LEGO Year of the Tiger (40491) set which came from LEGO’s Declaration of Conformity and there are now official images of the set. The set has 193 pieces but we don’t know when it will be released at this time. It will most likely be available in January like with previous years. The price threshold to get it would be about $80 or $88 which is the normal from previous years. The number 8 is a very lucky number in Chinese culture so it will most likely be one of the two prices which should be confirmed when the January store calendar is released.
