LEGO has announced the winner of the Out of This World building contest on LEGO Ideas has the winning model that will go in development to become a gift-with-purchase set is The Adventures of the USS Cardboard. This fun little model shows a child riding a makeshift rocket out of cardboard which kind of reminds us of something similar we did during our childhood. 2,869 fans voted for it and we will get this set sometime in the future.

The LEGO NASA Space Shuttle Discovery (10283) was announced a few days ago and if you didn’t read the press release closely, you may have missed some details of a VIP Rewards Center exclusive item that will be available as well. For 1,800 VIP points, LEGO will be offering the Ulysses Space Probe which the Discovery deployed in a 1990 mission to scan the sun. It wasn’t mentioned how many will be available but it did say limited stocks which I don’t expect to be a lot of. The press release didn’t say when the set will launch but I’m assuming it’ll be on April 1 alongside the release of the Discovery.

At the beginning of the year, some building instructions revealed a new LEGO City Crooks Hideout (60278). There has been absolutely no information about it and it didn’t even release when we expected it but there is now an explanation for that. The reason is that the set has been officially cancelled due to LEGO not feeling that it is keeping with brand values.
With LEGO City, we always aim to represent the reality of the world in a way that is fun, positive and appropriate for kids. With this in mind, we have decided not to launch this product as we no longer feel it is in keeping with the values of the LEGO City brand.

LEGO has kicked off a new building contest on LEGO Ideas where your build could be displayed at the LEGO House for an entire year. There are three categories that your model can be based on and they include:
• Alternative nature build: Show us the best of nature with a something a little different, with bricks. LEGO Bricks!
• A fun LEGO Minifigure or Mini-doll scene: show off a LEGO theme of your choice in a mini-scene! Classic Castle? City? Or even something like Ninjago! These can be everyday life, humorous or wacky! But please no 3rd party IP references.
• An Architecture build: Using incredible buildings, structures or your imagination, build an architecture style model. Around the size of current Architecture LEGO Sets. We are not looking for small/micro builds.
LEGO will be choosing around 25 winners from each category who all will have their builds displayed at the LEGO House as well as getting a copy of the LEGO House (21037). There will also be a Grand Prize Winner for each category and they will get:
