LEGO Seasonal Year of the Ox (40417)

In just a few days, LEGO will have a new promotion on the LEGO Shop for the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Ox (40417). You’ll be able to get it for free with purchases of $85 or more, while supplies last.

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Ox (40417)

Like with the previous Chinese Zodiac animal GWPs, it comes in a flap box and it also includes an envelope for putting money in as a gift.

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Ox (40417)

The build is a cartoonish style ox that is sitting on a display stand. The ox has articulation on the arms and legs by the way of some ball joints and the head is on a turntable spinner. The ears are on hinges so they are able to move up and down.

The stand has a more autumn feel to it with the color scheme but it works well with the color of the ox. There are a couple of jumper plates to allow it to sit on it but it’s not too secure.

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Ox (40417)

The Year of the Ox (40417) is the seventh one in the Chinese New Year series and it’s an okay build. Ranking it alongside the other animals that have released so far in terms of design, I would place it fifth. Of course, that’s just my opinion and you may have it ranked higher. The Year of the Dog (40235) is still my favorite one mainly because I love the look of it and that is my zodiac animal.

The promotion for this set will run from February 1-14 with purchases of $85 or … Continue

LEGO Celebrates 63rd Brick Patent Day

Today, LEGO celebrates the day that the LEGO brick was born which was when the design of the LEGO brick was patented in Denmark back in 1958. It is pretty much one of the most important events in LEGO history since it eventually gave us the “building blocks” for the LEGO System. Without it, we wouldn’t have any builders or AFOLs in general.

On January 28, 1958 at precisely 1.58 pm the application for the very first LEGO® brick patent was filed at the Danish Directorate for Patents and Trademarks. Soon after, patent applications were filed in numerous countries around the world.

In the months after the application for the Danish patent, applications were filed in countries such as Norway (March 12, 1958), Sweden (March 22, 1958), Germany (April 10, 1958) and Holland (April 14, 1958). Also in 1958, applications were filed in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy.

The following year, in 1959, the LEGO reach was increased even further to include countries such as Israel, South Africa, England, Poland, Ireland, Turkey, Finland, Portugal and Spain.

And today, as we know, LEGO play is reaching millions of children all over the world.
