LEGO Retiring Soon List Updated for US – November 2024

LEGO has finally updated their Retiring Soon list on the LEGO Shop for the US and here’s are what sets will be going away soon. Of course this isn’t the comprehensive list as LEGO doesn’t list everything that is retiring but it gives you an idea of what to expect. As of this post, there are 73 items listed as retiring, presumably by the end of the year. Note that some of the sets are older sets, quite a few of them are also from this year.

Update: LEGO has added more items to the list which brings the count to over 100 items.

Are the LEGO Tie-In GWPs Out of Control?

Next week, LEGO will be releasing two new gift with purchase sets that ties in to some of their new releases but is LEGO going overboard with these types of promotions? The two in question are the Entrance Gate for The Botanical Garden (21353) and Cerebro for the X-Men: X-Mansion (76294) and including those, there have been I believe five sets are similar that have been released this year which includes the Mimic Dice Box, the Technic P1 Logo, and Fell Beast, Borgin and Burkes: Floo Network, Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber.

From a business perspective, it’s smart for LEGO to tie in certain GWPs with sets they go with since they know fans will buy them. From the buyer’s perspective, it hard to keep up with some of the releases if you’re into those fandoms and there’s a sense of FOMO since there’s only a limited time to get them. If we’re just looking at the six sets above, unless you’re using reward points for discounts, you’re looking at almost $2,800 pre-tax.

We already know that LEGO will most likely continue these types of promotions in the future so it’s inevitable. As more and more sets become more expensive, it’ll be harder to justify these purchases unless the promo sets are proportional to the main sets.

LEGO Bakery (40696) GWP Review

LEGO Bakery (40696)

Presumably the last LEGO shop set that will be released this year is the Bakery (40696). The set has 376 pieces and we’re assuming it’ll require a $200 purchase, similar to the previous shop sets.

LEGO Bakery (40696)

LEGO Bakery (40696)

The front of the Bakery has your typical boutique style design with the two windows on the sides of the door. Inside the windows, there are two giant cupcakes which is probably deceptive marketing.

LEGO Bakery (40696)

The awning uses a combination of red and dark red slopes. The bakery sign uses a sticker and there’s a croissant logo above it.

LEGO Bakery (40696)

On the second floor, there are some more smaller windows with some dark green awning above them.

LEGO Bakery (40696)

On the back side of the bakery, it has an open concept as there is no back wall. This has stuck with all four of the shops that have released this year. The bottom floor has a showcase showing some of their offerings as well as a counter with more baked goods laying around.

The upper floor has some seating as well as an island of pastries in the middle.

LEGO Bakery (40696)

Overall, the LEGO Bakery (40696) isn’t a bad model but the thing that holds it back is the $200 purchase price requirement to get it. Although the model is fairly detailed, I don’t think it is worth the $200 purchase but if you’re already collecting the line, you’ll most likely get the last one. LEGO likes to double up on promotions for these sets so it’s more incentive to make a larger purchase so it’ll probably … Continue
