The LEGO Batman Movie Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman Keychain (5004928) Review

The LEGO Batman Movie Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman Keychain (5004928)

One of the more elusive polybags for The LEGO Batman Movie when it was first released was the Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman Keychain (5004928). The only way to get it earlier this year was to watch the movie at Cinemark Theatres or buy it on the secondary market but now you can get it at Target. You can either purchase $30 worth of LEGO Batman products and get it for free or but it outright for $5.99 each.

The printing on the minifigure is exclusive to this set and it is a white suit with red kisses all over the front and back of the torso as well as on the arms along with some more kisses on the front and sides of the legs. The cowl technically can not be removed as there is a metal pin going down the cowl, head, and torso however if you want to remove the pin, The Brick Blogger has a very good article on various methods on how to take it out. The only thing that can’t be taken apart are the torso and legs.

It is unfortunate that a cool suit like this came as a keychain but that’s how marketing works. The promotion at Target will run until November 4, while supplies last. My closest store was all sold out last week even before the promo started which was a bummer so I had to get it online. I heard this was happening at some other locations across the US as well. The DPCI# for The LEGO Batman Movie Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman Keychain (5004928) is 204-00-0265.

So seriously, what’s the best way to de-keychain these guys? I have plenty of spare Batman heads and cowls. Even if they survive the process I would replace them anyway, so they’re disposable.

I use the heating method. I removed the chain, then held the remaining ring with a paperclip. I lightly pulled (continously) on the paperclip while holding it over a candle’s flame. Once it heated up enough, the screw came out like butter.

The Brick Blogger article you link to is out of date. I’ve dechained Hulk keychains for the heads a few times, and of the ones I did this with the earlier purchases were pretty much as expected. The last batch I picked up before they stopped production were very different, as are any minifig keychains produced since then. Now the neck post is part of the hips, and the torso has a neck hole instead. The bottom of the neck hole has a flange that clips into cuts on the sides of the neck post. Once the head and headgear are fastened down with the keychain stem, the torso isn’t going anywhere, so there’s no longer any glue involved.

My preferred method for dechaining these guys is similar to the first option. To start with, I pop open the large ring that attaches the keychain to the stem in the minifig. I’ve got locking needlenose pliers that I lock onto the loop at the top of the stem, and a sharp twist is all it takes to snap the top of the loop off. Sometimes it pretty much snaps the loop off right at the base. Other times it leaves a little wing on either side of the loop and it takes some force to pull the hair/headgear loose so the stem can be broken off mostly flush with the top of the neck post. It can be a bit rough on the hair/headgear, but I prefer to replace them with regular versions in cases like this keychain. If I’m just going after parts of the minifig, it’s even less of an issue.

If I had a little Lego guillotine it would be perfect to chop off their key-chained heads. Long live the revolution
