There has been many changes going on for The LEGO Movie Sequel in the past few months. Last month, it was reported that the movie was pushed back a second time to February 2, 2019 from the original release date of May 26, 2017. Variety is now reporting that Warner Bros. has hired Raphael Bob-Waksberg to rewrite the script for the movie. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller being busy with other projects, the studio went in another direction for the writing.
Although it’s not that unusual for movies to be rewritten this early in production, it does seem a little worrisome that there are so many changes announced for The LEGO Movie Sequel so far. Hopefully these changes are for the best.

Here’s the thing, Phil Lord and Chris Miller might be too busy to write the film, but they should not be too busy to read and approve the script. The Lego Movie was perfect in every way. The pace, the tone, the humor. I trust those guys with the franchise. Anything without their stamp of approval would be worrisome.
Also, I’d rather have no movie than a bad movie.
How many changed have there been? The release date and a rewrite? That is barely anything.
AND it seems the the delay could be for the rewrite, so really only one change
Yeah. Plus the other LEGO movies have been pumped too and once again I think WB released they can’t release three LEGO movies in 18 months. Movies go through rewrites and dates get moved. No big deal.
I think the main problem is that they have used a lot of material for the first film and to do a sequel of the same quality would be very hard to write.
It IS troubling though. Considering it was set for release next year and we need a rewrite, that suggests something went wrong behind the scenes.
