Issues With LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011)?

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011)

If you haven’t purchased any of the Series 15 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71011) yet and if there are stores around you that are selling them, you might want to pick them up or be cautious about them. As per a report over on Reddit, there’s some sort of recall on them for whatever reason. Speculation from some is that it might be a legal issue caused by the Shark Guy who looks very similar to the Left and Right Shark from the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show last year. Some others think it’s just a recall because there are some issues with minifigures themselves or with their accessories like getting multiple torsos and no legs while some are getting multiples of a certain accessory.

If you look on Shop@Homeicon, they’re already marked as sold out which is strange considering they were just released last month here in the US. Was this part of this whole recall thing or was it just a coincidence and they happened to sell out quickly. So far, it seems that is happening only in North America. As of this point, there is no official word from LEGO but I’ll keep you updated if there’s any news on it. If you picked up some of Series 15, did you have any quality control issues with them?

Update: Kim from the LAN has posted:

Just to be clear – we have not done a recall in 6 years and if we did, I am quite confident we’d all know.
There may be other issues that would warrant a temporary stop for distribution, but recalls are different: https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/product-recalls?domainredir=service.lego.com

There is no IP claim with the Shark Guy – he was designed long before it became a costume with an uncoordinated dancer in it.

No issues with the ones I’ve gotten so far! I have noticed that this series is even more popular that the last… The only places left in town that have them are Toys R Us, and they’re dwindling to the least-popular figures in the line.

I just need two more (the ones with animals). Please don’t go yet!

I have been to 6 Targets and only one had any out, which isn’t uncommon. It’s why i stopped collecting them with series 10 or 11.

    However Shark guy is awesome.

      Shark guy is pretty cool.

      • David4

He’s awesome. I have only bought a very few with the insane $4 price tag and he’s one of them.

        • MRCAB

Yeah, I really hate the pricing, but I guess there’s nothing to be done about it…

The targets near me do not even have a spot set aside for the CMF anymore, which is strange. Wonder if Targets are getting tired of selling them

My Target used to get a sidecap display, but that ended series ago. Now they just get 1-2 boxes and stick them out. Sometimes they are on sidecaps where they stick Mixels.

I haven’t seen them at Walmart in years, besides this past summer where they had 2-3 maybe even 4 boxes on a slightly older series. I thought that was odd and I’m kicking myself for not buying any.

Two years ago, I was visiting Milwaukee and hit the local Target. Lo and behold, half a dozen CMF series 9 packs! This is why I always make an effort to hit stores when I visit friends.

Our local Toys R Us had their supply locked in the cabinet of the electronics section. I had to ask for them specifically. There wasn’t a sign in the Lego section or any indication they were even carrying them. They got about a box a week. I’ve been able to complete the collection since I got there just after a new box on my third trip. The local Target hasn’t carried them at all but they still have over 400+ of Series 14 minifigures left in-stock. We did really well on the “feel” method this time and only ended up with a single miss. We got a dupe of the golden winged guy.

I have had issues with 2 minifigs in this series with missing accessories… hmmm

  6. Francesco Gavardi

huh. well my satyr’s face print is wonky, not sure if it has anything to do with this

    • MRCAB

      What’s wonky about it?

      • Francesco Gavardi

the beard doesn’t line up with the rest of the face, as if the head got turned before printing it.
        i doubt it’s a general problem though

        • MRCAB

Not to bag on Mexico… but… Come on, Mexico…

    • bwap

I ended up with two Skeleton Guys from the previous series (Monsters) & both of their faces were printed wonky (one way worse than the other though)

No issues other than I couldn’t find that shark.

I haven’t had a problem with the 8 I have bought so far. Its funny in one of my packs (the winged warrior) I had an extra spear in addition to the one that came with the fig so I got two and didn’t even realize it when I was feeling the packs! But no problem here besides unhelpful ignorant Target employees.

  9. Matt

I got a full set, plus some extras I wanted, from the local Lego Store. No issues with mine, but glad I got them all, and a couple extra Shark guys 🙂

  10. Sonni

I bought 30 bags so far and the only issue I found were two cloth capes instead of one with the Queen. Not that I would complain but it made me wonder how it might’ve happened when I’ve never saw myself nor heard of such quality control issues since first series. So perhaps recall due to such mistakes is possible. The interesting thing is if it’s US-only or worldwide. If the latter it might be a good time to go and buy some extras. 😉

I’ve bought a couple dozen of these, and have had no problems. Only a bent air tank on one of my astronauts, which could easily be attributed to someone being overzealous with feeling the package. It bent back easily though.

If it’s a legal issue, it’s more likely to be about the wrestling champion than the shark. It bears a pretty strong resemblance to the Ultimate Warrior.

  13. Mylittlebirdie

Our local Toys R Us is already out of stock. We bought a whole bunch of them from Target and haven’t experienced any quality issues or missing pieces.

the base bricks are off. lego prides themselves on the ‘click factor’, but the figures keep falling off the bases.

think they have started manufacturing in China.

    • NRD1138

Pretty sure they have been manufacturing these in China since series 1. Now if it is in a third party factory or an official LEGO factory is a bit of semantics I think, as poor manufacturing is poor manufacturing.

Picked up the full set the week after they came out. No issues except that the Lego store was the only place that couldn’t keep them in stock. But that just meant that I got to find the minifigs I was missing from series 12 because the Toys R Us I went to still had a bunch of boxes.

  16. TheGlynreaper

thank goodness I have 3 shark guys , I only need 3 to complete the set but to be honest im not to bothered about them ballerina , fencer and the farmer

Oh my god, it shows ‘Sold out’!!!! The sky is falling!! the sky is falling!! oh no it must be due to this or that…

Until I hear an actual explanation from LEGO- or the series is ‘Sold out’ for about a month- I will chalk this up to typical CMF paranoia every time a series goes on back order or shows as ‘ sold out’ briefly.

EVERY series -for as long as I can remember – goes to ‘sold out’ temporarily mid run because LEGO has to produce more to sell. Then they come back and people feel silly for freaking out about it, then apparently forget this occurs with CMFs when the next series comes out and it happens all over again.
I will say these guys seem a bit harder to find in my area as opposed to Series 13 or even 14, which makes me wonder if some stores are getting tired of selling them (though Five Below stores seem to have them now as well).
Though if the rumor about the wrestler needing to be pulled from the series, or modified, is true (because I doubt they would yank the line for one figure) that would make that figure insanely expensive overnight (maybe that is why this ‘rumor’ of the Shark or Wrestler being a trademark infringement is happening)

  18. leggot

Target had 2 fresh casses worth on the rack this morning, store had not had minifigs out for a month or more till today,

  19. OhioBricker

Local Toys r Us received 2 new cases today, all packs for sale. This rumor is bunk, in my opinion.

  20. Mook

First shark guy I got had a chunk missing right from the end of his tail, like a chip in the paint. Got a replacement though 😀

  21. leggot

stoped in to the local Lego store to see the March 1 wave displayed, Series 15 CMFs will not be back, per the manager, get them while you can find them, TRU had 4 left,

  22. NCFilmGirl23

I haven’t picked any up yet but did see some today in a store. Either a WalMart or a Meijer, I can’t recall. Ironically it was the shark I was thinking of getting but I couldn’t find a package that felt like one.

  23. leggot

I have noticed some of these packages puffing up like baloons, and some packages have a plastic wrap that has a very different feel to it then others I have handled, a somewhat thicker and smoother quality, maybe they were addressing these issues? My local Lego store had 16 cases come in recently 😛

  24. Julie Bowen

Just got some for my son’s Easter basket and the one package I let him open early had a strange figure that wasn’t one of the 16 designed for the series. I don’t know if that’s part of the issue, but I was very disappointed.
