Unlocking Stan Lee Character in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game

Stan Hulk

When I first saw the Stan Lee character for the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game at SDCC 2013, I started thinking of how to get the character. I knew it was going to be fairly difficult since it’s Stan Lee and plus he has a bunch of other super heroes’ powers. Yesterday, IGN has posted some details on how we are able to unlock the character with the help of TT Game Director Arthur Parsons:

Stan Lee’s groupies, for example, won’t be able to unlock the comic book icon by simply sticking to the critical path. As Parsons explains, recruiting Spidey’s co-creator into your roster is one of the title’s most involved tasks. “We have 50 Stan Lee’s in various perilous situations. In one of them he drinks this toxic soda and transforms into Stan Hulk, and you end up having to beat him up; when you beat him up, he transforms back to Stan and he’s like ‘Excelsior, thank you!’, and off he runs. Once you’ve rescued all 50, you then get to unlock Stan as a playable character.”

Official LEGO Documentary Coming in 2014

Today, Deadline has revealed that The LEGO Group in conjunction with Global Emerging Markets (GEM) will be creating an official feature-length documentary film called Beyond The Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary. They have partnered up with Oscar-winner Daniel Junge (Saving Face) and Oscar-nominated Kief Davidson (Open Heart) to shoot a film to take a deeper look into the company and the impact of the bricks on today’s culture, art, and education. The documentary will also take a look at not only younger builders, but Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs), LEGO convention attendees, artists, and famous LEGO fans too. Brendan Kiernan and Justin Moore-Lewy will be producing the documentary and is slated to be released early 2014.

LEGO bricks are everywhere, and this documentary is an examination of their footprint in our global community. The LEGO brick has transcended language, politics, age, race, art, science and technology – all through its ability to draw out the basic human need to create and share. – Jill Wilfert, VP of Licensing and Entertainment for The LEGO Group

A few years ago, there was a very well made short video called AFOL: A Blocumentary that takes a look into the world of a couple of AFOLs from the Pacific Northwest. You can watch that video below.

LEGO NASA’s Missions: Imagine and Build Contest Winners

Back in June, we reported there was a LEGO contest called NASA’s Missions: Imagine and Build happening on ReBrick in conjunction with the space agency.

The winner of the “Imagine Our Future Beyond Earth” contest was the “Sunbeam,” created by Jay Semlis from England. The satellite is used to look at the outer cornea of the sun. There were also two runner up winners including “The ORACOM” by Sergio Parra from the United States which is a Mars spacecraft and the “Asteroid Initiative” by Peter Hollander also from the United States which is used to pick up and move asteroids.

NASA’s associate administrator for education Leland Melvin says, “Our intention was to unleash everyone’s creativity and inspire participants to combine real NASA research with imaginative flights of fancy. Looking at the winning designs, it’s clear we did just that.”

The grand prize winner of the contest received the LEGO CUUSOO Hayabusa (21101) set, signed by the LEGO designer Melody Louise Caddick, recognition and honorable mention on NASA.gov, and a collection of NASA memorabilia including a personalized signed lithograph from Melvin.

There was also another contest called the “Inventing the Future of Flight” to create a prototype of a future aircraft as well as writing a technical paper to explain the model and how it is taking NASA’s ideas and improves on them. The winning model for the younger builders category was the “Flying Extinguisher 4000 Fish Eagle” created by 16 year old William Nodvik from the United States which is a long range supertanker that puts … Continue
