Blocks Magazine Issue #10 Review

Blocks Magazine Issue #10

I’ve recently received a couple of LEGO magazines from over in the UK. One of these magazines is from Blocks with their latest issue #10. Some of you may not know this, but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a couple of members of the Blocks team, Rob and Michelle, at Philly Brick Fest earlier this year. The magazine started late last year but went through a couple of personnel changes in the beginning of this year. From what I’ve been told by Rob is that they have big visions for the magazine and will continue to push out content that you may or may not find online. A little self plug: some photos I took while at PBF in April were used in Issue 9 so that’s pretty cool.

Blocks Magazine Issue #10

My first impressions from just looking at the table of contents is that it’s jam packed with articles, from reviews, to building techniques, showcases, and editorials. As mentioned before, Issue 10 mostly focuses on the LEGO Batman theme but it’s not overwhelming as there are other themes tossed in to give it some contrast.

Blocks Magazine Issue #10

One of the articles I enjoyed was the LEGO Inside Tour column by Svein Tore Bidne Bøe and their first-hand experience of the event. As someone who might not have a chance to go to Billund, I do enjoy reading about others’ experiences as everyone has different perspectives.

Again flipping through the magazine, you get a couple columns regarding the LEGO Batman subtheme. One of the columns talks about some of the … Continue

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has just released a new story trailer for LEGO Dimensions titled Worlds Collide in LEGO Dimensions. It takes a look at how Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle got together and also another look at the main villain in the game, Lord Vortech.

Unexpected Worlds Collide and All Boundaries Are Broken in LEGO® Dimensions

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today released the story trailer for LEGO® Dimensions™, the upcoming entertainment experience that merges physical LEGO® brick building with interactive console game play. The game features an original story that combines characters and worlds from 14 of the most popular entertainment brands including DC Comics™, The Lord of the Rings™, The LEGO® Movie, The Wizard of Oz™, LEGO® Ninjago, Back to the Future™, Scooby-Doo™, LEGO® Chima™, Doctor Who, Jurassic World, Ghostbusters™, The Simpsons™, Portal™ and Midway Arcade.

In the game, there is an ancient planet at the centre of the LEGO® Multiverse inhabited by an evil mastermind, Lord Vortech. It is said that he who controls the Foundational Elements that this planet is built upon, controls all of the Multiverse. Lord Vortech has vowed to be that ruler, summoning characters from a variety of LEGO® worlds to help him find these building bricks of LEGO® civilisation. Some have agreed, others have rebelled, and only the combined powers of the greatest LEGO® heroes can stop him.

LEGO Store July 2015 Monthly Mini Build Event Whale (40132) Review

LEGO July 2015 Monthly Mini Build Whale (40132)

I’m a few weeks late but here is my short review of the July 2015 LEGO Monthly Mini Build, the Whale (40132). This month’s event was the first one after the new registration changes were implemented in June. You can no longer do walkups to have your child(ren) build but instead you register and get on the list to build at a specific time. If you miss your time, then your spot may be given away at the store’s discretion and there are no rainchecks. I heard from attendees that the signups were pretty crazy and times spots filled up very quickly, pretty similar to SDCC signups but on a smaller level.

The whale itself is the smallest for 2015 so far coming in at only 31 pieces. The build is pretty straightforward with no special techniques and extremely easy to create even for younger children. Although the set is only named a whale, the shape of it is similar to a humpback. On top of the whale, there is a simulation of watching coming out of their blowhole. The tail is able to move up and down on the hinge.

LEGO July 2015 Monthly Mini Build Whale (40132)

Again to attend these LEGO Monthly Mini Builds, you have to register online. At the time of this review, registration for August’s build, the Squirrel (40133), is probably filled up but you can try and sign up. I can’t guarantee that there will still be any spots open because these events are that are that popular. I believe registration for September’s build will be … Continue
