The LEGO Batman Movie Batman Battle Pod (5004929) Found at US Toys R Us

The LEGO Batman Movie Batman Battle Pod (5004929)

It finally looks like the US will be getting The LEGO Batman Movie Batman Battle Pod (5004929) in a wider release. A reader has sent in an image of the polybag set out in a New Jersey Toys R Us. We’re still not sure of the official release date of it at TRU as they had to key it in but it rang up for $5.99 each.

If you remember from earlier this week, LEGOLAND California also has a promotion going for the Batman Battle Pod so it appears that LEGO will be finally releasing it here in the US. The item number 740399 and the SKU is 673419269292.

There’s still no word on whether TRU will be the only retailer having it available or if Shop@Home or other outlets will have them as well. Be on the lookout at your local Toys R Us to see if they have it at your store. Thanks to Todd for emailing this in.

Update: I’ve been told that it will officially be available at TRU starting on Sunday. We’ll see what sort of promo it goes with when the weekly ad comes out in a few days. Thanks to Peter for this info.

Do they have the Batman logo sticker already applied or not? If so, do they seem easy to take off? I would love some of those pods for custom stuff.

Stickers are pre-applied on the front outside and back inside. 6×6 round plate is glued inside the front, and 1×2 plate is glued into the base inside the back. The stickers are probably going to be a PITA to remove (particularly the one inside the back), but if you’re _really_ serious about it, there are tricks you can use. The old version is to apply peanut butter to the sticker, or the sticker residue. The oil will soak through the adhesive and prevent it from maintaining a secure bond. The new version is to just buy something like Goo Gone, which basically does the same thing with citrus oil. In both cases, cleanup will probably require a fair bit of soap to completely eliminate the grease.

Is this for American stores? I can’t find anything in their weekly ad or website and I don’t want to drive 40 miles to the nearest TRU for nothing.

I really wish they would announce their plans with these promo items ahead of time.

Prices of these things were really out of control only a few months ago.

Agreed. Originally we heard that these would be Hong Kong exclusives (somewhat supported by the Chinese characters on the front of the bag), but they started showing up in Europe (Czech Republic and Germany being two of the biggest sources) and Malaysia more than anywhere else. I held off as long as I felt comfortable with, so when I did finally buy mine, I think I paid less than $100 for three of them. At the time it seemed like a deal, compared to the $50+ prices they had been commanding early on. If I’d known they’d eventually hit the US, I could have waited even longer (even if I missed out at TRU, they’re currently being listed for about half of what I paid).

On the flip side of things, I waited and waited and waited for the Buzz Lightyear and Woody polybag sets, only to find out that they were never released anywhere outside of the UK, so I think I paid about the same to buy the last copy of one of those on Bricklink and one of the last two copies of the other. I was shocked that they never got a US release, given how insanely popular Toy Story is here, and how easily I’d been able to find the other two. I think I bought about 70 of the Claw Aliens during BOGOHO sales at TRU, and I could have bought dozens of the Green Army Man if I hadn’t determined that the regular battle pack was a better deal.

They’re probably trying to build a hard to track collector market so their products as a whole sell better
