LEGO will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the LEGO Icons Modluar Building Collection in 2027 and LUGs will be making large scale models of the modulars and displaying them around the world. There are 22 LUGs involved and they will use about 500,000 elements to create them with the larger builds taking about 750,000 elements. In total, there will be about 11.5 million LEGO elements used to create the modulars from throughout the years and will be displayed at major LEGO fan events and public exhibitions.

Modulars Around the World

22 LEGO® fan communities come together to celebrate 20 years of the LEGO Icons Modular Building Collection

In 2027, the LEGO Icons Modular Building Collection will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

To mark this milestone, 22 Recognized LEGO Fan Communities from around the world are taking on an extraordinary challenge of recreating iconic LEGO Modular Buildings at approximately four times their original scale.

Together, the communities will use millions of LEGO elements to bring a collection of giant Modular Buildings to life, with the creations eventually coming together at events and exhibitions around the world.

The participating communities represent a truly global collaboration, spanning North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Each community will be responsible for designing, engineering and constructing its own Modular Building. While the communities will work within shared standards to ensure that when the buildings can come together, they create a cohesive collection, each group will have significant creative freedom to determine how its building comes to life, while maintaining the overall exterior DNA of these iconic buildings.

And this won’t be a small undertaking.

Most communities will work with approximately 500,000 LEGO elements, while two of the largest builds will use approximately 750,000 elements. Across the project, that represents approximately 11.5 million LEGO elements.

Throughout 2027 and into 2028, we hope to see the modulars appearing at major LEGO fan events and public exhibitions around the world. Where opportunities allow, multiple buildings will come together to create even larger displays and celebrate the scale of what these 22 communities have accomplished together.

Follow the journey

Building at this scale is going to take time, creativity, problem solving and a lot of LEGO elements. But most importantly, it will take communities coming together.

Over the coming months, we hope you will follow these communities as they take on the challenge. Watch their designs develop, see the builds take shape, celebrate their progress and discover the stories they choose to tell.

Where opportunities arise, we encourage LEGO fans to visit the events where these Modulars are displayed, meet the communities behind them and experience the builds for themselves.

And if you are part of the wider LEGO fan community, get involved where you can. Share their progress, cheer them on, ask questions, celebrate the milestones and help us recognize the incredible work happening in communities around the world.

This is a celebration of 20 years of Modulars, but it is also a celebration of the people who have built, displayed, talked about and been inspired by them over the past two decades.

Follow the communities, follow the builds, and help us celebrate Modulars Around the World.

22 communities. 22 Modulars. 11.5 million LEGO elements. One global celebration.
