Next on our LEGO Pokemon set reviews, we take a look at the second minifigure scale set with the Iconic Trainer Moments Poke Ball (72154). It has 2,386 pieces and retails for $299.99.

Minifigures
There are three minifigures in the set, Red, Picnicker, and Professor Oak. Red is the main protagonist is the first Pokemon game and he’s wearing his red vest with the yellow backpack. The pants are mostly blue with some printing for the shoes. He does have a double-sided head with a smile on one side and a determined look on the other. The cap that he wears is also molded onto his anime style hair.

The Picnicker is a random charater that you encounter thoughout the games. He has on the green shirt with red tie and green shorts. His double-sided head shows him with smiles on both sides. Like with Red, his hair is molded on to his cap.

Lastly we have Professor Oak who is also recognizable since the beginning. He has on the iconic white lab coat with the lavender colored shirt and tan pants. He also has a double-sided head with smiles on both sides and not to mention, the thick eyebrows.

In addition, we also get molds of Pikachu an Eevee. They look very well done and the printing on them are pretty much spot on.

Build
The first part of the build is for the base where the Poke Ball is attached to. The one thing about this set is that it is very Technic centric. There are some beams at the bottom that secures the whole build in place. Since the whole build is mostly a ball, you’ll build a lot of things very similarly.

In the middle of the build, we have the battle arena where the whole platform is attached to some liftarms and pops up when you open the Poke Ball. The grassy areas on the side also slide out when the ball opens up.

The top part of the Poke Ball shows a small part of Professor Oak’s laboratory. Here we have a lot of thing that we normally see in the lab like the incubator, a table with Poke Balls, and on the back wall, there’s a computer and the bookshelf. This is also where are the stickers are at.

Opening and closing the Poke Ball is fairly smooth given the weight the top of the ball. What’s even impressive about it is that it is supported by only a few Technic beams and bars.

Results
The main thing that overshadows everything about the LEGO Pokemon Iconic Trainer Moments Poke Ball (72154) is that three minifigures that fans really wanted are paywalled behind a high price point. One of the first legit minifigure sets and many fans won’t get it because of that. Hopefully Red and Professor Oak are in future sets that are cheaper
Other than that, the overall build is very well done especially with the Technic mechanisms that are used raise and lower the battle arena when you open up the Poke Ball. There are some repetitiveness while building since you are making a sphere so keep that in mind. The base is surprisingly sturdy and it doesn’t tip over when it’s opened up.
