LEGO Lone Ranger Coming In 2013?

This is speculation but Klaus-Dieter over on Eurobricks has reported that LEGO will be releasing sets tying in with the new Lone Ranger movie by Disney starring Armie Hammer and and Johnny Depp. LEGO fans have been waiting over a decade for a new Western themed set, which last came out in 2002, and now they might have the chance to get some in April of next year. Because the LEGO Lone Ranger will be themed sets, the minifigures will be fleshed colored instead of the normal yellowed colored minifigs. See below for the post by Klaus:

For the Western fans amongst us, I have good and bad news concerning next year:
The good news is that there finally will be a new Western theme which shall be out in April 2013. There will be one huge set, three medium sized sets and two small sets. Regrettably I don’t more since there were only empty boxes painted in the retailer’s catalogue.
The imo bad news is that it will be licensed – namely based on the new Walt Disney movie “Lones Rider”.

Also remember that mb_bricks achieved 10000 supporters for his Modular Western Town on LEGO CUUSOO which is currently under review. Hopefully these themes won’t be conflicting because both have the potential to be some great themes. Stay tuned for more details of the LEGO Lone Ranger theme.

Purchasing and Investing LEGO with BrickPicker

Everything that is collectible has value. If you’ve ever bought LEGO sets before or looking into purchasing your first LEGO set, there is the retail price for the set and there is also the current value of the sets in the secondary market. How do you find the prices of the sets? You can either check Bricklink, Amazon, or eBay to find what other people are selling the sets for, which is pretty time consuming.

This is where BrickPicker comes in. This FREE service allows you to see what your “BrickFolio” is worth according to eBay using Terapeak. Brickpicker tracks the value of your collection by comparing the purchase price to the current price whether the sets or in new or used condition. You can also see the pricing trends of the sets and determine if they are a good buy or you should hold off in purchasing them. There is also a chance to win some BrickMaster Star Wars sets by doing things on the site earning BrickPoints.

Happy 80th Birthday, LEGO!! – The LEGO Story

August 10, 2012 marks the 80th birthday of LEGO, one of the most well-known companies in the world. In 1932 at Billund, Denmark, a carpenter named Ole Kirk Christiansen had an idea to start making wooden toys. After getting his company running, he named his company LEGO, coming from the Danish phrase “leg godt” meaning “play well.” Eventually, the company became the LEGO Group and the rest is history. Below is a very well made short film of the beginnings of the LEGO Group.

Warner Bros., The Dark Knight Rises, and LEGO

Warner Bros. has posted a press release of licensing and merchandising program for the The Dark Knight Rises which opens in theaters this weekend. There’s one part that was interesting about it.

Led by global master toy licensee Mattel, the film will also be supported by key partners such as The LEGO Group, Hallmark, Kinetix, Converse, Rubie’s Costume Company, and Titan Books, among many other licensees worldwide…The much-anticipated film is also being supported by the official partner in the construction category, LEGO, with a construction set inspired by The Dark Knight Rises;

So does this mean there will be a LEGO The Dark Knight set? Maybe. There were images of Batman, Bane, and Commissioner Gordon at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con but we were told that those minifigures were for the 2013 Super Heroes sets. If there are some new, unexpected LEGO Dark Knight Rises set(s), then that’s some awesome news. Maybe Warner Bros. and LEGO already had a plan to release a set to coincide with the movie release. Below is the official press release:

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 LEGO News Wrap Up

There were a lot of news coming out of the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con ranging from LEGO Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to the Super Heroes theme as well as Star Wars and Ninjago.

On Day 1, the biggest news for LEGO Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit was The Unexpected Gathering (79003) set that is expected to be released this December. The set takes place in the Bag End where all the characters gathered. Again, all the minifigures seen are Gandalf, Dwalin, Bombur, Bofur, Bilbo and Balin.

For Day 2, even bigger news came out for the LEGO Super Heroes theme. First, there were the exclusive minfigure giveaways of Bizarro, Phoenix, Shazam and Venom. LEGO also showed off the new minfigures for the LEGO DC Universe line as well as the LEGO Marvel line.

Day 3 was the reveal of the LEGO Star Wars Rancor Pit set. The Jabba’s Palace set fits right on top and The Brick Show has made a picture of what the combined sets might look like. Although in theory it might look cool with them connected, it feels incomplete without the mountain.

On the final day of Comic-Con 2012, LEGO released the trailer for Ninjago Season 3.

As you can see, San Diego Comic-Con 2012 was filled with reveals for many different themes. I personally can’t wait for all the sets to come out. What are you waiting for to come out?

LEGO My House Calculator

Have you ever wondered how many LEGO bricks are needed to construct an actual life sized house? Movoto Real Estate has a handy calculator to help curious minds see how many LEGO bricks are needed to create one. For example:

A two-story house that is 2,169 square feet — the median size of a house, according to the Census Bureau–would take 10,079,829 LEGOs to build.

This count only includes exterior walls and does not have interior walls. Furniture is also not included in the count.

If you may remember in 2009, James May, yes the same James May from Top Gear, and his team constructed a 3.3 million piece, two-storied house at Denbies Wine Estate. Although it wasn’t as fully functional as he would’ve liked, it was good enough for him to sleep there for a night. Unfortunately, plans to sell it to Legoland Windsor didn’t go through and the LEGO bricks were donated to charity.

So if you ever wanted to know an estimated amount of bricks to build a house, head over to Movoto and test out their calculator today.
