Fairy Bricks Looking for Information About Stolen LEGO Sets

A few days ago, Fairy Bricks, a charity in the UK that gives LEGO to children in hospitals, was a victim of a robbery at their headquarters. As you can see in the picture above, the place was ransacked and there were a number of LEGO sets that were stolen. The perpetrator(s) cut through a metal sheet from the outside to get in. Also their van that is used to deliver the sets was also stolen but it has since been returned. This isn’t the first time that Fairy Bricks has been robbed as their van was broken in a few years ago.

If you’re in the UK, keep an eye out for the following sets which were stolen in large quantities. If you have any information, please contact Fairy Bricks or the West Yorkshire Police.

Update: LEGO has tweeted that they will be working with Fairy Bricks to replace the sets as soon as possible.

New Story on How the LEGO Brick was Created

Today is the 100th birthday of former LEGO owner Godtfred Kirk Christiansen and LEGO has shared some never before released details of how the LEGO brick was created. The most interesting one is that the design of the brick was developed and patented in no more than five days. Read the full story below.

100 years ago, today, former LEGO® owner and managing director Godtfred Kirk Christiansen was born. His influence on the company and the success of the LEGO system in play is undeniable, but brand-new research done by our historians in LEGO Idea House shows that his influence on the LEGO brick and the company is even greater than we initially thought.

“For decades we have been unable to give a precise answer to the question of how the LEGO brick was developed, and who was the mastermind behind the design. We have been convinced that it was a lengthy development process carried out by a team of LEGO employees in the mid to late 1950s. Thanks to newly-discovered material, we have found out that Godtfred actually played a pivotal role in developing the LEGO brick that people all over the world love today,” explains Signe Wiese, Corporate Historian from LEGO Idea House.

Here is the never-before-told story of the development of the iconic LEGO brick:

It’s January 23, 1958. Three men are sitting in a LEGO office in Billund. The three men are Godtfred Kirk, his brother Karl Georg (presumably) and Axel Thomsen, head of LEGO sales office in Germany.

The latter explains

LEGO VIP Reward Center Update Coming Tomorrow

If you’ve used the LEGO VIP Reward Center, you may have noticed that it’s a bit clunky to use. LEGO has been taking feedback and they have announced that they will be making the first big update to the site some time tomorrow. Most of the update will be dedicated to the front-end of the site which includes a refreshed look and feel of it. You can read more about the update below.

We have been listening to your feedback and pleased to let you know about the first big update to the VIP program.

As of tomorrow 8th of July (subject to change) we will be launching a refreshed VIP Reward Center. This refresh has a number of visual changes to the platform, but more importantly there are a number of technology changes that will be going live in the background.

Overall highlights of the change that you can see from tomorrow:

• Refreshed VIP reward Centre look and feel, navigation around the site is easier and more dynamic
• Improved sign in process to the reward centre
• The location and language you are viewing LEGO.com will follow you onto the VIP reward Centre.
• New Pop up and banner to inform you that you are no longer in your VIP home country, we heard cases where members had redeemed rewards in the wrong country and have been unable to get these rewards. I want to avoid that confusion so when you visit a different countries Reward Centre you will see limited selection of

LEGO Pausing Social Media Paid Advertising

LEGO has released a statement regarding paid advertising on social media platforms. They did not outright state that is is in response to supporting the Facebook boycott from large brands but they do emphasize that they do want to have a positive, inclusive digital environment free from hate speech, discrimination and misinformation.

Social Media Paid Advertising Pause

We are committed to having a positive impact on children and the world they will inherit.
That includes contributing to a positive, inclusive digital environment free from hate speech, discrimination and misinformation.
We will take immediate steps to carefully review the standards we apply to advertising and engagement on global social media platforms. While we do that, we will pause all paid advertising on global social media platforms for at least 30 days.
We will not change our media investment during this period and instead, invest in other channels.
We will work to collaborate with our partners and take whatever steps are necessary to create a more trusted digital world for people today and future generations. We are confident solutions exist but urgent action is needed.

Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing Officer
