The Future of LEGO Star Wars Theme Very Secure

Our friends at Brick Fanatics has found an interesting article from ToyNews regarding the future of the LEGO Star Wars theme. In a recent interview, LEGO CEO Jørgen Von Knudstorp states that the very popular theme will “stay with us forever because LEGO Star Wars has become a brand in its own right.” Back in 2012, LEGO extended the licensing deal with Lucasfilm, which they’ve had since 1999, for 10 more years until 2022 and it looks like that they’ll keep continuing to do so in the future. The Star Wars Universe is so massive that there’s almost unlimited sets that LEGO can create including the new Constraction Ultrabuild Characters that will be released later this year. Plus there are the three sequel trilogy movies as well as the Han Solo and Boba Fett spin-off movies that can give more sources of inspiration for future sets.

Continuing with the interview, Knudstorp also talks about licensed themes. He notes that LEGO doesn’t want every movie to become a theme but they do like “stories that have longevity” such as LEGO The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. As we know by now, some movies that turn into sets didn’t pan out as the company would have liked such as Prince of Persia and The Lone Ranger.

Finally, Toy News asked if the LEGO is releasing licensed sets targeted towards adult fans. Knudstorp answers both yes and no and gives an example of the LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) set. He’s surprised to … Continue

LEGO Star Wars Hoth Han Solo Minifigure Polybag (5001621) Review

LEGO Star Wars Hoth Han Solo (5001621)

Today we have a review of an item that’s been released before but could be new for people who missed it two years ago and it’s the LEGO Star Wars Hoth Han Solo (5001621) minifigure polybag. As mentioned before, this particular minifigure was available two years ago during as a May the Fourth exclusive with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $75 or more. I guess LEGO still has a lot of these minifigures left over because they brought it back as a February 2015 promotion. If you received a 2015 LEGO Wall Calendar either in November or December, there is a coupon that allows you to get the Hoth Han Solo minifigure with any LEGO Star Wars purchase this month.

This version of Hoth Han Solo has him wearing the original brown parka. There’s not much to it but it does have some details like the rank insignia, scarf and belt. The back of the torso also continues the printing from the front. There is also a removable hood that you can replace with Han’s brown hair. The head is also double-sided with one side having printing of him wearing the face mask and goggles.

If you’re an old school Star Wars fan, you’ve probably know about the brown vs. blue controversy about which color of the parka Han was wearing in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. From what I’ve gathered, the parka was originally brown but the bluish lighting of the Echo Base made the blue version ingrained in our memories. … Continue

New Images of LEGO Star Wars Death Star Final Duel & 2015 Advent Calendar

Continuing with the theme of images getting snuck out of the 2015 Nuremberg Toy Fair, Hoth Bricks has published a couple images of the Summer 2015 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets. In the first image, we get the Death Star Final Duel (75093). This scene depicts the climax of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi where Luke Skywalker battles Darth Vader while Emperor Palatine watches on. There are also two Royal Guards at the entrance of the throne room. You can also see the reactor shaft where Palpatine was thrown into on the right side.

The other image is of the Star Wars 2015 Advent Calendar (75097), more particularly of C-3P0 dressed in a Santa costume and R2-D2 as a reindeer. They look very reminiscent of the characters from Ralph McQuarrie Christmas Card in 1979. I must say it’s a pretty cool nod to the late illustrator.

LEGO Star Wars Constraction Ultrabuild Characters Revealed

A few days ago, we reported that there will be some new LEGO Star Wars Character Constraction Ultrabuild sets coming this September/October which were seen at the 2015 Nuremberg Toy Fair. There’s a new report coming out of ToyArk that names the characters in the wave including Jedi Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Jango Fett, Commander Cody, Clone Wars Obi-Wan, and General Grieveous. However, this conflicts with the report by Promo Bricks because they mentioned Boba Fett would be in the wave instead of Jango. We’ll see in the near future of which Mandalorian we’ll be getting.

LEGO Star Wars Character Construction Ultrabuild Sets Coming in 2015

As we mentioned yesterday, the LEGO Star Wars sets were displayed at the 2015 Nuremberg Toy Fair but photography was prohibited but that won’t stop reports from coming out describing them. Michael over at Promo Bricks mentions there will be a new line of construction figures that will look similar to General Grievous (10186) from 2008. However, these sets won’t have any TECHNIC pieces and will be like the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Ultrabuild sets from 2012. Michael also mentioned that they will be available in October but from the report we got a few weeks ago, they will be available in September. There’s no word on who the characters will be but Boba Fett will definitely be one of them. More details as they come.
