It looks like we finally have some new information about some of the LEGO Dimensions expansion packs that will be coming in 2017. NZGamer.com did an interview with LEGO Dimensions producer Doug Heder and he has given some info on what we can expect from some expansion packs coming in the next few months.
A few weeks ago, Wave 7.5 was announced which includes The LEGO Batman Story Pack (71264), the Knight Rider Fun Pack (71286), and The LEGO Batman Movie Fun Pack (71344). There will be a few more expansion packs that will be coming in March that combines with 7.5 to make it Wave 8. We’ve just recently seen The Goonies Sloth minifigure but there’s no word on which wave it will be in.
Finally, we have the rest of the packs that we know of but hasn’t been revealed yet which will be in Wave 9 and they include the Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice, and Teen Titans GO! One little detail that Heder has stated is that the heads for the Powerfuff Girls will be newly molded heads on a standard minifigure body, similar to what we’ve seen for some new minifigures like E.T., Sonic, and the Gremlins. I think that’s good since all the new minifigures have molded heads to make them looks as close as the source material as possible and I’m pretty sure that fans wouldn’t want standard minifigure heads of the girls as it would look all weird.

You forgot to mention the Lego city undercover pack!
It will be interesting to see if they bring out all the Powerpuff Girls in physical minifigure form for Dimensions or if they will just bring out one and the other two will just be in game characters. The latter would be a killer for collectors
Sadly, they really haven’t been making a point of filling in all the gaps. I think Portal 2 is about as close as you can get to an all-inclusive Dimensions lineup. Everything else you can easily find “missing” characters. However, imagine how bloated the game would be if they did go that route. Speaking strictly in terms of gameplay, who actually needs all four Ghostbusters in separate packs if they can give you a unique Venkman that allows you to access all four ‘busters (especially when all four exist as minifigs in two other sets)? If they did release all three Powerpuff Girls, it’s basically just be to satisfy collectors, and not to improve the game. But yeah, it kinda sucks that B.A. is the lone member of the A-Team, and only time will tell if they actually round out the full Teen Titans Go! lineup.
But this where Lego needs to make up for that, if not with Dimensions, which as you point out would not be feasible, but as new theme of sets centered around TV/Movie/Pop culture properties
Hey all! I interviewed Doug last week for my new dimensioned.net site if anybody’s interested… http://dimensioned.net/feature-DOUGHEDER0916.htm
My last gaming console was a PS2, so obviously I am not able to play the game, but I do enjoy picking up the figures on occasion. I will definitely want to get Beetlejuice, The Goonies’ Sloth, and perhaps Knight Rider for the 80’s nostalgia factor. The Powerpuff girls not so much. I loved the cartoon but have no real desire to have their Lego figures.
Looks like LEGO must have a powerful relationship with Cartoon Network. Ever since the LEGO Ben 10 buildable figure theme in 2010 was a disaster, the two businesses are improving their partnership!
Heck, I’d like to see a Cartoon Network Collectible Minifigure Series featuring characters from both classic and modern shows. I’ve always wanted LEGO to do Ed, Edd n Eddy and other cartoons. What do you think?
and I want SpongeBob SquarePants packs!
Sorry, that was supposed to be a reply to the comment below.
