LEGO Ideas Doctor Who and WALL•E Set Prices Revealed?

We might not know much information about the upcoming LEGO Ideas Doctor Who or WALL•E (21303) sets but Toys R Us may have given us the prices for the sets. Over on Reddit, someone has managed to snap a couple of pictures of the price tags for both sets for the upcoming store shelf resets. As you can see, the Doctor Who set will be $59.99 while the WALL•E set will be $49.99. We’ve already seen some images of WALL•E so we can kind of gauge how big it is compared to the Doctor Who set which is a little bit more expensive. Usually there’s no markup on the LEGO Ideas sets at TRU so I believe these will be the prices at the LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home.

So can we assume it’s going to be revealed soon??? I can’t wait! I hope there’s a minifig of the 10th doctor/David Tennant…my favorite!

I agree; Tennant is the man.

At my TRU they have the Episode 7 tags for a few sets and the advent calendar out already.

What tags are up for SW 7?

A $60 price tag for Doctor Who? That must mean it’s a decent-sized set. For that price, we got a BBT set with 7 minifigs. For $10 less, we got the Ecto 1 with 4 minifigs. This almost certainly means we can expect more than just the Doctor and 1 companion. Would they possibly give us all the doctors since 2005 in one set???

It would be far more expensive if all 13 Doctors were included. There’s a big difference between seven mini figures and thirteen. Personally, I expect LEGO will milk it after the Ideas set and make more sets (one for each Doctor and companion/s).

I said “all doctors since 2005” (meaning only the Doctors since the series revival). That’s a whole lot less than 13. You didn’t read the post very carefully. A set of 13 would be incredibly expensive.

Yes but the show didn’t start in 2005. That’s basically saying all Doctors pre-2005 should be ignored. It’s easy to assume a typo with a post like that as I did because some people do think the show started in 2005 and not 1963.

They’re not going to do a set with only the new series Doctors or all 13.

I’m not suggesting they SHOULD ignore all pre-2005 Doctors, but let’s be honest: LEGO still markets primarily to children (none of whom were born yet when Pertwee, Baker, et al were in their heyday).

When I walk into a major retail store these days, virtually all of the Doctor Who merchandise I see relates to 2005 and beyond. LEGO is all about the present. All one needs to do is look at the IDEAS poll for this project to see where fan interest is: of pre-2005 Doctors, only Tom Baker cracked the top 4 in voting. It would easily make sense for them to release a set of all Doctors since 2005 since it’s considered a separate series from the 1963 one even though continuity remains. Don’t believe me? Look at the IMDB pages for each.

That would also leave the door open for them to do a line of retro Doctor Who sets later. Am I saying they are going to do any of this? No. But to say it wouldn’t make sense to “ignore” all pre-2005 Doctors is to ignore basic principles of marketing.

Except there has been loads of merchandise featuring all the Doctors aimed at kids. You never get any featuring only the new series Doctors. It’s either the current Doctor, one past new series Doctor or all thirteen. Plus the show has frequently reminded its audience that Doctors existed before Christopher Eccleston. Day of the Doctor did this and that was only two years ago.
Also: to say it is considered a separate series from the ‘classic’ part of the show is ludicrous. It is not considered a ‘separate series’ at all. Only grumpy old men who hate the new series Doctors consider it a ‘separate’ entity. Everybody else treats it as what it is: the same show.
If LEGO release a set featuring only new series Doctors, I will be shocked. For one, BBC Worldwide probably wouldn’t allow it and two: it would make much more sense to just feature the 12th Doctor, Clara, Missy and a couple of Daleks seeing as that would tie-in with series 9.

TRU does mark up, the higher the base price, the more significant the markup, they tried to sell the 2011 millenium falcon (non UCS) for $40.00 above it’s lego store listing.

I think they meant TRU doesn’t tend to mark up the IDEAS sets. I bought The Ghostbusters one for retail there and they are selling Big Bang Theory for retail price as well.
