The Hobbit-Rivendell project by fishingtwister is the latest one to hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. This project is a very elaborate MOC of the Elven city of Rivendell from The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings books/movies. It includes about 10 different buildings that you can display to your liking to recreate the scene. Note that the mountain in the background is not included in the project.
It’ll be going up against another LOTR project with Lothlorien along with Brick-Built Adventure Time Figures, Caterham Super Seven, the Modular Library, LEGO Physics, and Ghostbusters: Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the review stage.

Lego Physics will easily win
I don’t see any making it forward
As beautiful as it is, it doesn’t have a chance.
1. It looks like it belongs in LEGOLAND.
2. LEGO Middle-Earth is being allowed to die.
Only Adventure Time, Modular Library or Lego Physics have a chance. The rest are just sets posted on there to get attention or sets that are probably already being worked on by Lego such as the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man.
Out of those, Adventure Time depends on whether they want to do another licensed theme – and i doubt they would.
The modular library seems like a risk similar to the Helicarrier which apparently was not selling too well from what i heard from customer support.
Lego Physics seems like an interesting concept. Though getting a box of dominoes would be easier and cheaper.
Adventure Time belongs to Cartoon Network which belongs to Time Warner. Time Warner has a lot of themes in LEGO as well as most of the franchises in Dimensions. I wish LEGO could do a theme around CN in general. Whether its Adventure Time and Regular Show, or Samurai Jack and KND. CN has a lot of potential.
I’m really surprised this one made because it’s basically an amazing MOC that no one would have the time or money to replicate. I do like the other LOTR project though. Still, someone needs to get a LOTR project passed that is actually viable to make from a piece count perspective.
That and LEGO Middle-Earth being on the verge of going away which is a pity, considering that they have done nothing concerning about 75% of the LOTR.
Is the license expiring?
In due time I think. Right now they haven’t released any new sets. (Though Gandalf and others will be in Dimensions, so I really can’t be sure. :/)In addition, JRR’s son Christopher is in charge of the Tolkien estate and the Middle-Earth books. He is a purist and between Peter Jackson’s rather poor adaption of The Hobbit and Time Warner turning Middle Earth into a personal cash cow, he has become rather protective of Tolkien’s work and will probably not renew licenses concerning LOTR and the Hobbit. He has also refused to sell the movie rights of The Silmarillion which is currently PJ’s obstacle from making a movie on it.
As much as I love LOTR, this doesn’t have a chance.
It’s cool, but too big and complex.
Sadly this is to big/complex to make it. Caterham Seven has a good shot.
Did anybody see there’s a smaller version on the updates tab? It shows several buildings, entrance bridge, and accessories with light up moon rune.
