LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Infinity War Movie to Set Comparison

It’s been two weeks since Avengers: Infinity War was released in theaters and if you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe like me, you’ve probably seen the movie already, maybe more than once. I’ve been asked a few times to compare the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Infinity War sets to the movie and that’s what I’ll do in this new series I’m starting on this site simply called Movie to Set Comparison.

As we know by now, LEGO usually releases sets depicting scenes for a particular movie and sometimes they aren’t that accurate due to them having only a little bit of source material to go by. What I’ll be doing is watching a certain movie and comparing the sets to see how accurate they are to the film. What better beginning to this series than to compare the LEGO sets to the record-setting Avengers: Infinity War. There are six sets that have been released so far for this movie so let’s get started. Be warned, there are spoilers but that goes without saying.

Outrider Dropship Attack (76101)

The Outrider Dropship Attack depicts the scene in Wakanda with a few members of the Black Order and the Outriders. The minifigure selection of Captain America, Black Widow, and a couple of Outriders are definitely accurate as they all appear in this scene. Both Captain America and Black Widow are in their new outfits and I do like how Captain America has his beard. The Outriders themselves are decent using a new neck brace piece for the other four arms. This set is perfect if you’re thinking of building an army of Outriders. The Outrider Dropship itself has a similar shape to the alien ship but the size of it isn’t too precise as it’s a fraction of its real size while next to the minifigures. Plus we know that LEGO likes to throw in some stud shooters for a play feature even though they don’t really shoot anything in the movie.

Thor’s Weapon Quest (76102)

Thor’s Weapon Quest takes place when Thor, Rocket, and Groot set off to Nidavellir so that Thor can get his latest weapon called Stormbreaker. The minifigure selection is spot on down to Thor who has received his replacement eye from Rocket before they got to the ruined planet. The escape pod is a little small but it is able to fit all three characters and it can also connect to the Benatar. LEGO calls the other part of the build a space station but it kind of looks more like the iris area of the forge. I do like that the Stormbreaker has a wooden handle that is made from part of Groot’s arm. I would have prefered Eitri figure as well but he seemed more like a secondary character in this scene.

The Hulkbuster Smash-Up (76104)

The Hulkbuster Smash-Up also takes place at the Battle of Wakanda. The characters of Bruce Banner, Falcon, Proxima Midnight, and an Outrider are accurate to the scene. Cull Obsidian is the main opponent for the Hulkbuster but he’s more accurate in another set in this wave I’ll get to later. Banner does ride inside of the Hulkbuster suit and some fans expect the Hulk to bust of out of it but that never took place. The turret never appeared in the film so this is just LEGO’s having creative liberty to add some addtional play features to the set.

Corvus Glaive Thresher Attack (76103)

The Corvus Glaive Thresher Attack seems to seems to be a combination of scenes from the climax of the movie. The Wakandan wall could be part of Mount Bashenga where Shuri’s laboratory is located at with some added play features that weren’t in the film. The purple energy shield area at the bottom of the wall could be used to represent the energy shield barrier at the outer part of the battle. The lab part where Shuri tries to extract the Mind Stone from Vision’s forehead is decently created. The thresher is a bit small compared to what was seen in the film but it’s good to have. The minifigure selection of Corvus Glaive, Shuri, Vision, and an Outrider are accurate but I don’t remember Black Panther being in the scene. I would have preferred Scarlet Witch here unless Black Panther was used for the frontline battle when the thresher machines first appeared.

Thanos: Ultimate Battle

To me, the Thanos: Ultimate Battle set could be the least film accurate one from the film. This set is based on the Thanos battle on Titan but there are some things here that don’t match up. First off, the Thanos bigfig is not accurate at all because he doesn’t wear the helmet in this particular scene. Plus, I don’t remember him wielding a sword at all. Another thing that isn’t too accurate with the batle is that Gamora isn’t present here because she was killed before Thanos got to Titan. I would have preferred the Iron Spider minifigure in place of Gamora although she had a pivotal role in the events leading up to the battle. The Benatar is present for just a few seconds when the Guardians are on Titan with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange and it looks great although there wasn’t that many scenes where we got a good look at it from the outside.

Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown (76108)

The Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown is the largest set in the wave and it is one of the more film accurate ones overall. The minifigure selection of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Ebony Maw, and bigfig Cull Obsidian are all accurate however the Iron Spider suit doesn’t show up until Spider-Man is up in space. The side with the Sanctum Sanctorum itself looks pretty nice but the other side of the building with Peter Parker’s apartment and pizzaria doesn’t explicitly appear at all in the movie. For all we know, they could be there but according to what was shown in the movie, that’s a negative.

Like I mentioned before, LEGO usually produce sets for some of the bigger movies and most of the time, they are too accurate to what is depicted. For Avengers: Infinity War, I feel that LEGO has done a really good job recreating sets to various scenes, moreso than previous movies that LEGO has released sets for. Some of the sets have added play features simply because the sets are designed for the younger audience and they make them more enjoyable but for the purpose of this post, I still have to make a judgement on them.

Although there are a number of characters that have been omitted so far that could make a claim of being included in a set, i.e. Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Bucky (White Wolf), Wong, maybe they could show up in a future unannounced summer set, and maybe for the next movie. I know that Scarlet Witch and Bucky has seemingly died at the end of the movie but who knows what will happen in the next movie.

Which of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Infinity War are your favorites? Perhaps your opinions of them have changed now that you’ve probably had a chance to watch the movie already.
