It looks like we have a new LEGO Nexo Knights Battle Pod polybag coming soon. Just2Good over on Twitter has posted what appears to be a Battle Pod similar to The LEGO Batman Movie one but with a color swap. The Battle Pod also includes a Knight along with some accessories including a sword and a Nexo Power. There’s no word when we expect to see it released as a promotion but we know one is coming.

Having just received my order of three LBM Battle Pods, I have to disagree with Just2Good. The pod itself is nothing special. The pod itself is clearly not designed to make a hard connection to anything in the LEGO system, though the base is molded in such a way that it will nest loosely on a 2×4 or larger stud pattern (each half of the shell forms the top or bottom of an “H” shape, and the open spaces have room for a 2×2 pattern, while the side bars fit between them and any adjacent rows of studs). The front has a sticker that has been molded so the LEGO and LBM logos bulge outwards (but there’s nothing underneath except a standard layer of adhesive that’s not actually stuck to anything). There’s a pocket on the back that would fit the same size sticker, but it’s empty. The hinge can sorta pinch the width of a 1x brick as well, but due to the weight of the pod it’s a pretty tenuous connection at best.
On the inside, the back has another pocket that looks like it’s the same size as the outer ones, but this has a flat sticker depicting the Batcave, with the 2017 copyright and the 5004929 number that’s repeated on the back of the polybag (I’ll confess, I still don’t understand those numbers, since the bag has “Item: 6178088” written right below 5004929, and as with many similar items there’s no standard 5-digit set number on the front). In the base of the back, there’s a light-bley 1×2 plate that the minifig stands on. Inside the front, there’s a molded pocket that’s designed to fit a light-bley 6×6 round plate. Both of these appear to be glued in place.
When you open the polybag, it’s just the folded sheet of instructions and the pod itself. Inside the pod is a more flexible clear bag full of all the other parts. I got mine from a seller in Malaysia, so there’s also a sticker on the back that references LEGO Trading (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, with address and phone/fax numbers. I expect this would be absent or contain different info depending on where it was actually released.
Anyways, the pod itself is, as I said, nothing special. Its real value lies in the Tiger Tuxedo Batman minifig, which is the last current LBM minifig that I had left to acquire. And that’s largely where the real value in the minifig lies. It’s not a bad minifig, but it’s not the best they’ve done either. It’s not particularly exciting, and the bright-light orange or whatever of the torso bleeds through the white of the shirt just enough to draw your eye, but no so much that it’s glaringly obvious.
So, it’s got interest in the full range of LBM minifigs in general, and in the crazy alternate Batsuits in particular going for it. Nexo Knights…doesn’t. Frankly, just from the blurry photo Just2good posted, I can’t even tell which character it’s supposed to be (not that I can remember most of them anyways), nor can I tell how/if it’s different from any previous versions of that same character. I fully expect the Nexo shield is going to be the sole draw of this pod for people who are trying to collect all of the powers (especially if it’s a desirable power), but unless that minifig is hands down the coolest thing they’ve ever done for the theme, I don’t know how much a draw it’s going to be for even the core fans.
And for the power, since the Nexo tiles are nothing more than pad-printed plastic, and they have to work on a range of different devices with no interface accessories like the Dimensions portal, I have a suspicion that nothing more than a good scan would be needed to load it into the game.
Sounds like the kind of thing I’ll get at Target whenever that’s possible for 3$ and use the stuff for other reasons.
That’s not currently possible with the LBM Battle Pod, if it ever will be. I expect it’d price in the $5-10 range in the US, if it was sold at retail. It was originally claimed to be a Hong Kong exclusive, but I’ve had it want listed with notification since shortly after it got added to Bricklink, and the three main sources of new listings early on were Malaysia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. More recently, the US has picked up (likely from the two LEGOLAND parks) and Germany has been the main source of new listings. Singapore seems to have the second highest number of listings right now, but I only ever got one notification for a Singapore store, so I don’t know when the rest were added (could be before I signed up for notifications, or they might not have sent any out if they listed after that). Regardless, it seems clear that they aren’t likely to show up at regular retail in the US.
Absent the minifig, $3 is probably more than it’s actually worth. I mean, you get 19 actual parts (only the gun and the tile are worth making a fuss over), a giant clamshell pod that will only ever see use in a MOC to prove that it’s actually possible, and a minifig with exclusive torso and hip prints. With the minifig, it’s basically worth what the minifig is worth to you. Only two sellers have listed the loose minifig (both have sold), and I actually waited a long time to buy the pods because I didn’t want to spend $45+ per pod, buy from a seller with a “0” feedback rating (which rules out most of the cheaper listings), or get hit with a fat shipping bill. I ended up being able to buy three from Malaysia for just a touch over $100 including free shipping. Not as low as I would have preferred, but it didn’t look like I’d be able to pick them up at a Discovery Center, and the prices seemed to have bottomed out for a while.
Yeah, I got my LBM pod for about $35 which is $31 more than it should have been. These packages seem to have been vastly under produced (or maybe time will tell that we’ve just been impatient).
