One of today’s panels I attended today at San Diego Comic Con 2015 was LEGO Ninjago and I got a lot of response on Twitter from fans when I tried to live tweet the panel. The panel consisted of Tommy Andreasen (senior creative manager, The LEGO Group), Dan Hageman (writer, Ninjago TV series), Kevin Hageman (writer, Ninjago TV series), Keith Malone (content development director, The LEGO Group) Simon Lucas (creative lead, LEGO Ninjago), and Maarten Simons (senior designer, LEGO Ninjago) and was moderated by Brian Bowler (marketing director, The LEGO Group). Be warned, there might be some spoilers pertaining to the upcoming season of LEGO Ninjago.
The panel discussed some of the upcoming developments of in the world of Ninjago and also gave some sneak peeks at what’s coming in the future. First, they talked about some of what happened this season of the television series which corresponds to the summer 2015 wave of sets. They also took some time to talk about some of the early designs for the characters and how they translated from the first designs to the final products. The panel also touched on the new Airjitzu abilities and the early concepts for the Airjitzu sets.
Next up, the panel talked about new locations that the Ninjas headed to this season such as the city of Stixx, the Cloud Kingdom, and Yang’s Haunted Temple.
After that, they talked about some of the characters that appeared this season and what effects they had on the show. After entering Yang’s Haunted Temple, the ninjas have to exit in a certain amount of time if they don’t, they’ll end up like Cole as a ghost. There’s also a new villain called The Preeminent. She is stated to be the “ultimate ghost bad guy” and is bigger and badder than the Overlord. Not that this is the only time that the Overlord was mentioned. Also, Nya is now a full-fledged ninja from being Samurai X to the Master of Water. They also showed a clip of her water abilities but I wasn’t allowed to take images from that but I can say that it’s pretty cool. You’ve probably seen it already if you’ve been following the show.
Finally, they showed a short clip of what will be happening the following season. From what I’ve gathered, the ninjas are on the run and in hiding. The clip showed Jay entering a bar and he saw a report that the ninjas are being searched for and he took off. At the end of the panel when we were leaving the room, they handed out a lanyard that shows a pirate flag of some sort so that might suggest that next season will be ninjas vs pirates or something of the sort.
There was also a Q&A with the attendees and I forgot who said it but they did say “there might be a new ninja next season.” I’ll just leave it at that.
So what do you guys think of what is being planned for LEGO Ninjago? Are you even more excited now that you’ve seen some of what was shown at the panel?
