The 2016 LEGO Star Wars May the 4th shopping event is next week and LEGO has teased more details about the promotion. We already knew about the exclusive minifigure for this year with the First Order Stormtrooper (30602). It is available free with purchases of $50 or more on LEGO Star Wars products.
There is also the Double VIP Points on all LEGO Star Wars purchases which is always nice.
What we didn’t know about is the free LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens theatrical poster. The image is a direct recreation of the official poster using LEGO minifigures and builds. The only downside that I suspect about it is that it’ll be folded up. I’ve uploaded a clearer image of the poster from a postcard that I got in the mail which you can see below.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the headline set for May the 4th is the UCS Assault on Hoth. I’ll have my review on this particular set in a few weeks time.

Do you have any info on the rumored “escape from the space slug” set that’s been talked about on some forums for spending 150+ USD?
Someone posted a picture of a VIP invite event invitation that will occur the morning of April 30th in a Facebook group. The store will open an hour early and this is when that set will be available. I’ll try and hunt down the photo but I have no idea who posted it or how long ago it was posted (no earlier than march at the most)
I’ve seen the image (has watermark btw). Technically, the Space Slug set is only supposed to be only for official LUG members for spending $150+, 28 per store I believe.
Ugh. My nearest lego store is 100 miles away 🙁 I was hoping it would be on the online shop too
Any idea what you have to do to get an invite, or is it just random for all the VIP’s in the area?
As I said, these invites were exclusive for LUG members only. You have to be part of a LUG to get one and even then there was a limit to how many people got one.
Any information about what the dimensions of the poster will be?
Probably the usual size.
Any idea why the First order trooper is exclusive? Torso looks similar to whats been done, but I can’t tell if it’s a variation. Maybe the leg printing?
Extra pouch on front torso.
Thanks. I think Lego can do better. I think these promos are a good way to do odd characters that might not fit with any set. In that sense this is sort of a wasted opportunity.
Yeah, I’m finding a lot of smack about it around the web. Its not even a unique character like Yularen last year or Revan the year before. Its just a stormtrooper. What I heard was that Disney and therefore Lucasarts are becoming more and more restrictive on who TLG can use for the May the 4th sales event: thus random stormtrooper from Disney’s branch of the Star Wars universe. A lot of folk are disgruntled.
I believe it, though it’s odd they would care. Bringing attention to lesser known characters can only be a good thing for Star Wars and Disney. Funny that they wouldn’t see it that way. It’s probably just as well though, my wallet could use a break.
Yularen was a lesser known character and Revan has not been or might not ever be in a set. At the very least they could have done someone from the cantina, like that first order informant. There are also plenty of people from the first six that we haven’t seen, like Mas Ameda.
Too bad we don’t get the minifig for every $50 we spend since I’ll be buying the Hoth UCS set.
That’s amazing man
I have to get the new Lego Star wars set.
Do we have to buy lego in the LEGO store to get the promo fig? And is the action worldwide? Pls respond 🙂 ty
It is available online as well. A number of different countries will have a similar promo.
Thnx
