LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales Coming to DVD on March 1

LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales

Earlier today, LEGO announced that LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales will be released on DVD on March 1, 2016. Droid Tales was a five-part series on Cartoon Network that is a retelling of the Star Wars saga told from the eyes of C-3PO and R2-D2. There’s no word on whether there will be an exclusive minifigure for the DVD or not but I’m going to guess no on that.

The fun begins following the victory celebration in the Ewok village on Endor, at the end of STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI. R2-D2 and C-3PO have gathered to regale Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and the other Rebels with the tales of their adventures that led to the events of STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE. An accidental kidnapping occurs while the droids are reminiscing, and suddenly you’re taken on a new journey that leads to the retelling of the entire STAR WARS saga, as told by R2-D2 and C-3PO! It’s hilarious and playful, packed with all your favorite interlocking characters. LEGO(R) STAR WARS(TM): DROID TALES is intergalactic thrills for the whole family!

I wish I knew what happened with the original “Yoda Chronicles” stuff. They very quickly rushed out a DVD with the four YC episiodes, no exclusive fig. One of the original YC episodes never made it to video. We’ve yet to get an exclusive Lindo Calrissian or older Jek-19. 🙁

I have one DVD for the Padawan Menace (came with young Han), one DVD for The Empire Strikes Out (came with Medal Vader), and one DVD with the first two of three eps of LSW:YC (The Phantom Clone and Menace of the Sith). The third ep (Attack of the Jedi) is still missing, but I’ve never seen any release that bundled the first two non-YC eps with anything else.

As for your question, I suspect that they planned to release AotJ with what ended up being the first episode of SW:NYC. When the name change happened, Disney probably killed any plans to pair up the old with the new on the grounds that it could give CN grounds to sue for the return of their series.

Boo. Yeah, AoTJ is the glaring omission from the DVDs.

Like I said, I’m sad that a Lindo minifigure is extremely unlikely at this point. I guess a custom could be made, though I’m not talented enough to make a sticker with his chest pattern.

I’ve still got it saved on my DVR, but anything I try to record off of it signals the DVD recorder to not even start recording. So basically I have it for as long as my DVR lasts and then it goes poof. And I’d really like to delete it someday, but that would require a physical copy to replace it with. Downloads don’t count.

Yoda Chronicles was on Cartoon Network. When Disney bought Lucasfilm, they cancelled YC and replaced it with New Yoda Chronicles (the “new” means it’s a completely unrelated series and in no way a direct continuation of the previous one with a new name slapped in it that allowed them to break the contract and put it on their own channel), on one of the Disney channels. Droid Tales was also on Disney XD, not Cartoon Network. Basically, any LEGO specials that involve SW, IJ, or Marvel are pretty much guaranteed to be locked into the Disney channels. DC, and Scooby-Doo go to Cartoon Network.
