Great LEGO Sets: A Visual History Book Review

Great LEGO Sets

A few weeks ago, DK sent in one of their upcoming books with Great LEGO Sets: A Visual History. I’ve already done a review of the Micro-Scale Space Cruiser (11910) that’s included with the book which has 256 pages and normally retails for $40.

Great LEGO Sets starts off with a visual timeline of some of the important events and key developments in LEGO set history. If you’re a newer LEGO fan, you probably didn’t know that some of the best LEGO sets came out in the 1980s like Blacktron and Futuron including the Monorail Transport System (6990). A few years after that, M-Tron was released as a new LEGO Space subtheme.

The next chapter gives an in-depth description of how a LEGO set is made. A few LEGO designers also chime in to give some information on the whole development process including Mark John Stafford and Jamie Berard, just to name a few. It’s a very interesting chapter of how a set goes from an idea to being on store shelves.

After that, we get to the meat of the book where it starts going in-depth of some notable sets from LEGO’s history. The sets are divided in chapters by decades starting from the 1950s to 2015. For each set, there’s either a one or two page spread detailing some specifics and why they make it a great set. There is a sub-section called the Guided Tour where it shows some key features of the sets. Another section is called Brick by Brick and … Continue

LEGO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Collectible Poster Promotion

LEGO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

The LEGO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones free collectible poster promotion is now available at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home. You can get a free poster for any LEGO Star Wars purchase you make which also works on keychains. If you’ve been collecting these posters, you’ll know this is the fifth poster and there’s only one left after this in October. Like with the other poster, these do come prefolded which is a bummer. The promo ends Sunday, September 27.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Hulk (5003048) Minifigure Polybag Image Found

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Hulk (5003048)

There’s now an image of the new exclusive LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Hulk (5003048) minifigure polybag that has shown up on Kijiji Canada. The Hulk is actually minifigure size instead of the bigfigs that we’re used to seeing with the character but in the olive green skin color. The only other Hulk in minifigure form was 5000022 back in 2012 as part of a LEGO promo at Shop@Home and LEGO Stores.

The 27 piece polybag also contains a small ATV as well as a sticker sheet similar to the one in the Rocket Raccoon (5002145) polybag where you can add the stickers to an existing set which I believe is for the Quinjet from the Age of Ultron wave.

The packaging does say Toys R Us on it and if it’s similar to Rocket Raccoon, it’ll be available sometime in the near future as part of a promotion and hopefully available for regular purchase after that. Thanks to Rick for the heads up.

Update: I’ve been told the street date for the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Hulk (5003048) is December 6, 2015.

Apparently this started yesterday but LEGO and Scooby-Doo are teaming up to do a LEGO Scooby-Doo Mystery Tour at select LEGO stores throughout the US and you can participate in some activities and get some cool stuff.

All the post says is to go take pictures with some LEGO Scooby-Doo and Shaggy costumed characters, create a trick or treat bag, and leave with an exclusive model of the Mystery Machine. This is probably a mini version of the van. If you were at the Bridgewater Commons event yesterday, let us know in the comments below of how it was.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Classic TV Series Batcave (76052) Teased?

LEGO Batman Adam West

Earlier today, LEGO posted an image celebrating the birthday of Adam West. You probably know that Adam West was Batman from the Batman television series back in the 1960s. That takes us to the point, did LEGO tease out a hint of the Batman minifigure for the upcoming LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Classic TV Series Batcave (76052) set?

Notice the Batmobile in the image above of the newer style stud shooters on the hood. Before there was no mentioning if there would be a Batmobile in the 76052 set but this is more evidence that there could be one included. LEGO has released a chibi version of the vehicle at San Diego Comic Con but this set could be a great opportunity to put out a regular sized car.

Thanks to everyone who messaged in about the image. I did see it this morning but I was at work the whole day and didn’t have time to do a post on it then.

LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) Rumored for January 2016

There’s some huge news/rumors coming from Just2Good this morning. He has noted that there are some “very reliable sources” saying that we’ll be getting a direct-to-consumer LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) on January 1, 2016. The set will be over 4,600 pieces and retail at $350. The set will be able to open up to see the interior details and such. J2G also mentioned that this set will be based on the original Ghostbusters films and not for the upcoming movie with the female crew. Finally, he mentions there will be a modular set planned for next near and the the firehouse isn’t a replacement for it.

As we all know by now, there have been some Ghostbusters Firehouse sets that weren’t approved to become official sets on LEGO Ideas but we did get the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108). Additionally, we are also getting some LEGO Dimensions expansion packs so we do know that LEGO does have a license to create Ghostbusters products.

Again, this is all speculation but Just2Good has proven that he is a reliable source of upcoming sets. If you’ve been holding off on getting the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108), I suggest you pick one up soon to go along with the new LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) since he didn’t mention the set coming with one. Sound off in the comments if you’re getting one if it actually becomes a set.
