MAD Magazine #532 – A MAD Look at LEGO

I was recently notified that the new issue of MAD Magazine #532 was available now on newsstands and inside the issue takes “A MAD Look at LEGO.” Famous writer and artist Sergio Aragonés, who I’ve been a fan of for a long time, and colorist Tum Luth portrays various satrical scenarios that has happened with LEGO bricks. If you look closely at one of the panels, you can see that LEGO Artist Nathan Sawaya’s work has been immortalized in MAD Magazine with his “Yellow” statue being the center of focus. LEGOLAND Premiering New The LEGO Movie 4D Film

It was announced yesterday that Merlin Entertainments is teaming up with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group to bring a new 4D animated film based on The LEGO Movie characters to be shown exclusively at LEGOLAND parks and LEGOLAND Discovery Centers worldwide later this year. The film will incorporate many of the film’s main characters as well as external special effects like wind, water, smoke, and lighting effects to give you a show that fans have never experienced before. CARLSBAD, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Merlin Entertainments announced today it is partnering with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group to bring a new 4D animated film based on the popular characters of The LEGO® Movie™, from Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and LEGO System A/S, to guests at LEGOLAND® Parks and LEGOLAND® Discovery Centers around the world later this year. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Age of Ultron The Hulk Buster Smash (76031) Review

For our next review of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Age of Ultron sets, we have The Hulk Buster Smash (76031). This set was available on Amazon a few days ago but has since been taken down. It contains 248 pieces and retails for $29.99 which is about a $0.12/piece ratio. The contents of the box includes three numbered bags, a bagged Hulk figure, one instruction booklet, a small sticker sheet, and the same comic we’ve been getting in this wave of AOU sets.

LEGO Speed Champions Minisite Updated Plus Videos

LEGO has finally updated the LEGO Speed Champions minisite in anticipation of the sets being officially released on March 1st. There are now product descriptions for each of the seven sets in the wave. There is also a Videos page but nothing is on it as of this writing. However, there are some YouTube videos which we’ve embedded below for you to enjoy. Finally, there’s a Games page as well but that page is broken as well.

We’ve already reviewed one of the LEGO Speed Champions sets with the McLaren Mercedes Pit Stop (75911) and we’ll be reviewing the rest of the sets in the wave as soon as they are available. There are reports that the sets have started showing up at Toys R Us so you can probably find them there ahead of the official release date.

LEGO Maersk Line Triple-E (10241) Retiring Soon

Everything usually comes to an end and that is what’s happening with the LEGO Creator Maersk Line Triple-E (10241). The set has been available since January 2014 but now has been placed in the “Retiring Soon” section on Shop@Home. This usually means LEGO has probably stopped producing the set and is just selling off the rest of their inventory online and in stores to make room for upcoming releases. There’s no exact timetable on when the Maersk Line Triple-E will be fully retired but there’s still some time to pick it up as of this writing. Thanks to Michael for the heads up.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham – The Squad Pack DLC Available on March 3

The release date for The Squad Pack DLC for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham has been announced to be available on March 3rd. Characters that will be included in the DLC are Captain Boomerang, Amanda Waller, Deathstroke, King Shark, El Diablo, Katana, Deadshot, and Harley Quinn.

The Squad Pack is the last DLC in the Season Pass which also includes Man of Steel, Dark Knight, Batman 75th, Arrow, and Bizarro World. You can also purchase the DLC seperately for $2.99. There’s still one more DLC available which will be free called the Heroines & Villainesses Pack but there hasn’t been a release date for it yet. Characters that will be included in that one are Raven, Starfire, Plastique, Terra, Vixen, Killer Frost, and Powergirl.

In The Squad add-on content pack, a mysterious figure has infiltrated Belle Reve Penitentiary, and it’s up to players to smash their way through the prison as Deadshot, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and other members of The Squad to hunt down this infiltrator before Amanda Waller’s—and The Squad’s—secrets are uncovered.

Rob Schrab Directing The LEGO Movie 2

The LEGO Movie 2 now has a director in writer, producer and TV director, Rob Schrab. He has directed various TV shows including The Sarah Silverman Program and episodes of Community, Parks and Recreation, and The Mindy Project but The LEGO Movie sequel will be the first time he will be directing on the big screen. The announcement was made by Warner Bros. Pictures President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Greg Silverman.

If you’ve seen Rob’s work, you know that he’s a very talented director and he is an exceptionally good choice to direct the movie. Rob has also worked as a writer on the Oscar-nominated animated film Monster House so hopefully the sequel will finally get to shine and not get snubbed like the first movie.

Earlier this month, we reported that the movie will be set four years after the first one and will be introducing more female characters including Emmet’s sister.
