LEGO Celebrates International Day of the Girl 2022 with New Campaign

LEGO celebrates International Day of the Girl with a new campaign encouraging girls to stay curious about STEAM subjects and careers. The campaign is to discourage misconceptions that girls don’t aren’t interested in STEAM fields. LEGO has launched a new campaign called Let’s Keep Them Curious! which includes 5 LEGO play STEAM building activities.

The LEGO Group invites girls to stay curious in STEAM subjects on International Day of the Girl

· New research shows girls still aren’t pursuing careers in STEAM
· US$120,000 donation to the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance
· Online campaign called ‘Let’s Keep them Curious!’ including 5 LEGO® play STEAM building activities

Billund, October 11th, 2022: The LEGO Group marks International Day of the Girl with a new campaign to encourage girls to stay curious about STEAM subjects and careers. New and sobering statistics from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and the LEGO Group show girls are still discouraged from STEAM fields from a young age when play is often gender stereotyped.

For example, one statistic in the “Geena Davis Institute LEGO® Creativity Study” shows 80% of boys are encouraged to code at a young age, compared with only 20% of girls. Furthermore, when asked, children as young as six think girls don’t like science. These misconceptions extend into the teen years and adulthood and contribute to the gender gap within STEAM related careers.

To help combat these misconceptions, the LEGO Group is launching an online campaign called ‘Let’s Keep them Curious!’ that includes 5 STEAM play activities

LEGO Amazon Prime Early Access Sale Now Live – October 2022

The Amazon Prime Early Access Sale is now live and there are some decent deals on LEGO sets. The sales on sets ranges from 30% off up to 58% off. The sets listed aren’t too crazy but there are some fun sets on there. Of course, LEGO isn’t the only thing on sale for Amazon Prime Early Access as there are thousands of other items on sale as well.

LEGO Ray the Castaway (40566) Sold Out on US LEGO Shop

For those in the US, the LEGO Ray the Castaway (40566) gift with purchase set has sold out on the LEGO Shop. It’s not surprising as Double VIP Points has officially kicked off and it wasn’t too hard to get even with the price requirement being moderately high. LEGO Brand Stores may still have them in stock and I would suggest calling your local store to check. As of right now, the US only has the LEGO Ninjago Lloyd Suit Mech (30593) with a $40 Ninjago purchase and Double Points. There should be another GWP set coming with the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Mystic Witch (40562) which is expected to be starting on October 14. Rakuten also has 10% cash back on non-exclusive sets.

Tommy Andreasen Leaves LEGO Ninjago Team

With the end of LEGO Ninjago Crystalized, show creator Tommy Andreasen has announced that this will be the end of his involvement with the Ninjago series. Since the start of the theme in 2011, Tommy had been involvement in pretty much all aspects of the show and the LEGO sets. Now that he has stepped away, he will also stop Ninjago related activities on Twitter which he opened engaged in conversation with fans. He will also stop answering questions about past Ninjago seasons as well.

As we all know by now, LEGO Ninjago will not be completely ending as it will be returning in 2023 with a new series. Tommy stated that it is important for the Ninjago team to find their own voice and to speak for themselves. I hope that whoever will be taking the mantle will be engaging with fans as Tommy was. If I’m not mistaken, Tommy is still a Senior Creative Manager at LEGO so he’ll be working on other things now that he has moved on from Ninjago.

We wish Tommy good luck in his future endeavors.
