The LEGO Group Named TIME 100 Most Influential Companies

TIME has released their first ever TIME 100 Most Influential Companies and The LEGO Group was one of the companies recognized for the honor. In the Innovators category, LEGO was named the most influential in fostering creativity. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, LEGO pushed forward with the Rebuild the World campaign to encourage kids and families to unlock their creativity by building.

During worldwide COVID-19 lockdowns, Lego creations have stacked up in homes with children. The company reported a 21% jump in sales, resulting from the immediate demand for in-home entertainment and the company’s pre-pandemic push to boost online sales globally. While its flagship product remains the classic brick, the 88-year-old family-owned company is evolving to recognize the diverse needs of young consumers with new offerings like Lego Braille Bricks and pandemic-inspired online content and hybrid learning resources. As families continue to hunker down, Lego love appears to be growing. “I have never gotten so many letters … [about] how important Lego play has been,” CEO Niels B. Christiansen tells TIME.

This morning, LEGO announced the new summer 2021 wave of LEGO VIDIYO sets and in the press kit, they also provided some prototype and development images of the sets and the minifigures. There’s no text that goes along with the images but you can make out which prototypes go with the final product and how much changed in between. My favorite one is probably the Punk Pirate Ship.

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Belle Bottom, Kevin and Bob (40421) Review

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Belle Bottom, Kevin and Bob (40421)

In my other review of the new LEGO BrickHeadz Minions: The Rise of Gru sets, I have Belle Bottom, Kevin, and Bob (40421). The set has 309 pieces and also retails for $19.99.

Belle Bottom seems to be the main antagonist in the movie. Not much is known about her but she does have on a disco style outfit. The main color scheme is magenta for the fur on the cape and at the bottom and purple for the rest of the body. There’s also a printed 1z2 brick for the chain that goes around the waist. Her afro hair is one of the more complex looking heads ever for the BrickHeadz line. It’s a little hard to see but she also wears some earrings.

Kevin is one of the more taller minions. The outfit is the one also found in the Minions Kung Fu Battle (75550). The top half of the body is pretty much yellow with some black for the googles. The eyes use the 2×2 printed round tiles that have the BrickHeadz style. He is in an orange kung fu outfit that has a printed tile on the front. The hands also have printed 1×1 tiles of a stripe for the sleeves. I assume this is slightly copying Bruce Lee’s yellow jumpsuit from Game of Death. He has a pair of nunchucks for his accessory.

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Gru, Stuart, and Otto (40420) Review

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Gru, Stuart, and Otto (40420)

Now available are a couple of new LEGO BrickHeadz sets based on the Minions: The Rise of Gru movie. The first set I want to take a look at is Gru, Stuart, and Otto (40420). The set has 244 pieces and retails for $19.99.

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Gru, Stuart, and Otto (40420)

The Gru in this set is a younger version of the character where he wears a dark blue jacket with a gray scarf. The inside of him has a lot of Modified 1 x 2 x 1 2/3 with studs on the side to allow detailing on all four sides. Gru’s head is actually quite detailed for being a BrickHeadz. The hairstyle is the side slicked one and it even has the cowlick on the back. The face is bland but it does have his recognizable pointy nose which is designated by a cheese slope.

Stuart is a minion with an elongated body. He only has one eye and it is printed on a 2×2 round tile. The look of it is in the BrickHeadz style of eyes which is cool since it keeps it consistent with the rest of the line. There’s also a printed 1×3 tile for the pocket on the overall.

LEGO BrickHeadz Minions Gru, Stuart, and Otto (40420)

Otto seems to be a new minion and he has a more rounder body. Built similarly to Stuart, Otto has two printed eyes with the goggles going around the head. He also has a printed 1×4 tile for the overall pocket in the front. Otto also has an accessory which is the zodiac stone that Gru stole … Continue
