LEGO Creator Mini Volkswagen Beetle (40252) Review

LEGO Creator Mini Volkswagen Beetle (40252)

Coming on April 1, LEGO will be having a promotion for the LEGO Creator Mini Volkswagen Beetle (40252) which is a smaller version of the Volkswagen Beetle (10252) released last year. This set will be available with purchases of $50 or more, while supplies last, from April 1-15. Designed by long-time LEGO designer, Mel Caddick, the 141 piece set looks to be another great set by her. The contents of the box include two unnumbered bags, the instructions, and a small sticker sheet.

The front of the box has the same background as the larger Beetle to give it a consistant look considering they’re both the same vehicle. The back just shows another angle of the set.

Build

The build of the Volkswagen Beetle is very simple as it pretty much is just stacking bricks, as these smaller sets are usually like. There isn’t any difficult building techniques used so the build time should be relatively short.

As I mentioned before, there are stickers with the set and as an official licensed product of Volkswagen, there is a sticker of the Volkwagen logo right in the front. For the license plate stickers, its spells out M31 OD4 which spells out Melody. If you’re not familar with license plate stickers, the designers usually throw in Easter eggs that relates to them and in this case, the designer’s first name.

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) to be May the 4th Promo Polybag

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611)

It looks like we have some confirmation of what the May the 4th LEGO promotion will be for this year and we’ve already seen images of it before. A reader has emailed in details and they were told that it will be the brick-built LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) polybag. You can get it for free during the May the 4th promotion with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $75 or more at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home.

I’ve been told that it this year’s promotional polybag would be a little different from previous years when they were exclusive minifigures and it appears that the brick-built R2-D2 will do just that. If you don’t wish to make a purchase during the May the 4th promo, you can build your own as the instructions have been online for a while. The only downside is that you have to substitute the front detailing as the printed 1×1 tiles are exclusive to this set. We’ll definitely confirm it when the May 2017 LEGO Store Calendar comes out in a few days.

Thanks to Sid for the info.

LEGO Mascot Collectible Minifigures BrickHeadz

Collectible Animal Suit Brickheadz (2017)

The mascot LEGO Collectible Minifigures have been very popular with fans. The LEGO BrickHeadz sets have also been surprisingly popular with builders. What happens if you combine the two?

Jared Chan has done just that and has recreated some of the mascot minifigures from years past in the BrickHeadz style. These characters include Piggy Guy from Series 12, Bunny Suit Guy from Series 7, Bumblebee Girl from Series 10, and Chicken Suit Guy from Series 9. These look very cute and is a new way to look at the minifigures.

LEGO Dimensions Sued for Patent Infringement

LEGO Dimensions Year 2

Here’s something that’s interesting coming out of the LEGO Dimensions subreddit. Apparently a company called FigureFun LLC is suing LEGO and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for patent infringement. The company states two patents, 7,001,276 and 7,338,377, are infringing on their rights and are seeking damages.

Users in the subreddit quickly debunked that FigureFun is using a practice called patent trolling. This is when a company obtains the rights to patents to make a profit from licensing or through the courts which is what is happening here.

According to public records, FigureFun LLC was set up on April 4, 2016, a whole year after LEGO Dimensions was introduced so this lawsuit is coming in pretty late. It’ll be interesting to see the outcome of this lawsuit, if any.

You can read up on the whole lawsuit here.

LEGO Speed Champions McLaren 720S (75880) Official Images

LEGO Speed Champions McLaren 720S (75880)

A few weeks ago, LEGO revealed the new LEGO Speed Champions McLaren 720s (75880) and there are now official images of the set. There are some slight differences between these images and the ones from before. The McLaren 720s itself seems to be the same however the designer minifigure’s hair is different.

LEGO design manager Craig Callum did an interview with Top Gear and he gave some details about the set as well as the LEGO Speed Champions theme.

The McLaren 720S (75880) will be available later this year for probably $14.99, similar to the other single vehicle sets.

Various Amazon Sales Including LEGO Star Wars, City, Super Heroes, Classic

Amazon has some really good sales on various LEGO sets. I’ve listed some of the more notable ones below.

If you been wanting to expand your carbon chamber scene from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Amazon has the LEGO Star Wars Carbon-Freezing Chamber (75137) on sale for $14 which is 44% off the normal price of $24.99. This is the lowest price the set has been at and is a great way to get Boba Fett as well as the new Ugnaught minifigures.

The TIE Striker (75154) is also at its lowest price at $48.99 which is 30% off the normal price. This set is a great way to grow your fleet of TIE Strikers which includes minifigures of the TIE Pilot, Imperial ground crew, Imperial Shoretrooper, and Rebel Trooper.

The LEGO City Cargo Train (60052) is back on sale again for $139.99 which is $60 off the regular price. It’s coming up on the third year of its shelf life so there’s a chance that it could be retiring soon.

The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge (76057) is also on sale and a good time to pick it up to expand the bridge into a complete one.

LEGO Classic Medium Creative Brick Box (10696) is 29% off but it has a $0.05/piece ratio with lots of nice pieces in various colors.

Like with the Creative Box, the Classic Creative Supplement (10693) also has a $0.05/piece ratio but comes in at 30% off at $13.99.
