The big news yesterday was that teaser trailer for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part was released online yesterday and I’m going to try and do a breakdown of what happened in the trailer and what sets we could get from LEGO from what was shown.
It’s been five years since the events on Taco Tuesday and Bricksburg has turned into an apocalyptic wasteland. If you remember, LEGO DUPLO characters came at the end of The LEGO Movie and it looks like they caused the destruction of the city.
As a result, everything turned into chaos and it “toughened and hardened” most people including Larry the Barista who underwent a drastic change. The only person that seemingly didn’t get affected was Emmet.
Emmet thinks he sees a shooting star go by but it is most likely a device sent down by a new character named Sweet Mayhem who is a minidoll instead of a minifigure. Here we can see a new Unikitty who is now a large armored cat that has long front and hind legs.
Building their way through trouble is still an integral part of their characters as you can see them build a four-wheel buggy that could be one of the sets we could get.
Soon after that, they meet Sweet Mayhem, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz, who actually looks pretty cool. She is a minidoll style and wears a stylish helmet with some sparkly wings.
Wyldstyle and the others get captured and get a good shot at some of the new character designs like Batman with a new armor, Benny with a robotic arm, Metalbeard, and another look at Unikitty.
They all get taken to the Sistar System which looks very colorful and Emmet flies there after them with a converted rocket house ship.
So what are the things from this two minute clip that we could see as potential minifigures and sets? Pretty much every version of the main characters will most likely become a minifigure. Sweet Mayhem will be a minidoll and it looks like we’ll finally have a LEGO set that has a minidoll and a minifigure in the same set. We’ll also probably see some minor characters like Larry the Barista. A LEGO Collectible Minifigure series also seems likely.
The blue crane at the beginning of the trailer seems to be a good choice as it looks to have a good amount of play features.
As for the LEGO DUPLO creatures, it’s up in the air if we’ll see a set that combines both regular LEGO bricks and DUPLO bricks.
The large Unikitty cat build has a very good chance to become a set and could be in one with the flying seeker thing along with the heart bombs.
As I mentioned before during the getaway scene, the buggy seems likely to be a set. It’s simply a tradition to include at least one vehicle in a movie wave.
Sweet Mayhem’s ship is a likely candidate as well. It’ll be interesting to see how big it will be to fit a number of characters in side it or it could be small enough to just fit Sweet Mayhem.
Finally, Emmet’s rocket ship house could also be a set. If you remember from The LEGO Movie wave, there were some 2-in-1 sets and the rocket ship house is something that qualifies for it. One of the builds could be the regular version of the house with a double-decker swing and the E&L 4-EVA pillow tile. The other build will be the rocket ship itself.
What do you guys think? Is there anything else you would like to see become a set for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part?
