The Lovelace & Babbage project by Stewart Cromar, aka stubot, is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. If you’re just looking at the image and are not familiar with the names, you may be wondering what it is about but if you are familiar with the names, you’ll know that this project is a science-based project based on the Analytical Engine, a mechanical general-purpose computer.
Lovelace & Babbage barely sneaks into the Second 2016 Review Stage and it now joins Voltron – Defender of the Universe, Spaceballs – Eagle 5, The Addams Family Mansion, the Merchant’s House, the Large Hadron Collider, LEGO Observatory – Mountain View, Modular Construction Site, the Women of NASA, Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder, and Lamborghini Veneno Roadster as the projects that qualify for the Review Stage.

Not trying to be that guy, but does the person that made this even really think that this is something that someone would actually want to build? So many of these projects (especially after research institute) seem to try and fit into that very small niche, just my 2 cents
I absolutely agree with that sentiment. I’m certain that one of the key considerations LEGO makes when reviewing these submissions is how well the set would do commercially. I’d never heard of this intellectual property prior to it being featured on Thebrickfan, and upon researching it found out it’s only about a year old. Honestly I’m a bit surprised it reached the 10,000 vote mark.
I would say out of the current contenders, the Eagle 5, Addams Family Mansion, Merchant’s House, and Observatory probably stand the best chance. The Veneno may be approved since the Caterham has shown LEGO is willing to do large scale cars outside of the Creator Expert theme, but there’s the question of the license as well as the fact that the Caterham is a very different car from what LEGO usually makes in the Creator Expert line.
