The LEGO Group Announces Collaboration With IKEA to Promote Creative Play

The LEGO Group has announced that they are partnering up with the popular Swedish furniture company IKEA to promote more creative play in the home environment. The press release doesn’t go into detail of what will be happening with this partnership however my guess is that we could see LEGO branded furniture being sold at IKEA. Stay tuned as we expect more information in the near future about the LEGO/IKEA team-up.

IKEA AND THE LEGO GROUP IN COLLABORATION TO ENABLE MORE PLAY AND CREATIVITY

We know that play is an important part of life and we believe in the power of play. Play lets us be creative, explore, experiment, dream and discover. IKEA and the LEGO Group, join forces to encourage more play.

Play is key to develop. And it is an essential part of a better everyday life. Play is so many different things, for so many different people. In the everyday life there are different barriers for play. Some of the barriers are more evident for grown-ups. One being that grown-ups think that playing can be messy. Other barriers are more evident to children – like grown-ups trying to create order in the play environment, where children in fact enjoy and often immerse themselves in the midst of it all.

“It started with an invitation from the LEGO Group “Do you want to play?”. Of course we said yes to this and together we now want to enable more play by triggering play in the functionality of the everyday life. At IKEA we first

The Toys That Made Us LEGO Episode Review

The long-awaited LEGO episode for The Toys That Made Us finally released last week and I’ve finally had some time to watch it and give it a quick review. If you’re not familiar with the show itself, it’s an eight part documentary that talks about the history of various toy franchises and how they’ve impacted society. Some of the toy lines that have been featured so far included He-Man, Star Wars, Transformers, and of course, LEGO.

The episode is about 45 minutes and it condenses LEGO’s 80+ years of history into it. If you’re familiar with LEGO’s history, then there’s really not much that you don’t already know and if you’ve read Brick by Brick: How LEGO Rewrote the Rules of Innovation and Conquered the Global Toy Industry by David Robertson, who also makes an appearance, then you’re pretty much set. The episode, however, does tell the story of LEGO in an upbeat way with some humor thrown in here and there. Most of the significant events that helped shape LEGO into the company that it is now is in the episode which included talking about the system of play, the emergence of the LEGO minifigure, the failures such as Jack Stone and Galidor, the decline due to the Star Wars and Harry Potter licenses, and to the revival because of Technic, Mindstorms, Bionicle, and Ninjago.

Even though it covered a lot of topics, there wasn’t anything new introduced that knowledgeable fans didn’t know about already. Although Ninjago and The LEGO Movie were mentioned briefly, it … Continue

The Toys That Made Us LEGO Episode Now on Netflix

The day is finally here as The Toys That Made Us has finally returned on Netflix in which it includes the episode about LEGO. The 44 minute episode talks about the history of LEGO in a different way. It will have some guests in it including Adam Reed Tucker, David Robertson, and fellow San Diegan Bruno Todd just to name a few. I’ll watch it after I get off from work but I’m pretty stoked for this episode as well as the Transformers one.

New LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Tyrannosaurus Rex Set Found

LEGO Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom Tyrannosaurus Rex

If you’ve think you’re done collecting all the LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sets, it looks like there will be another set to hunt for in the near future. Over at a Belgian toy store named Dreamland, they have shown off a new Tyrannosaurus Rex (4000031?) set consisting of 70 pieces as part of one of their promotions they’re having in store. The set shows a T.Rex standing on a brick-built display. The rex itself looks to be an exclusive with its leopard printing.

What’s interesting is that they are claiming that there are only 500 of the sets produced worldwide which I hope isn’t true. This set isn’t part of June’s promos when Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is in theaters so that’s out of the question. If it is actually at 500 total sets, it’ll be more rare than the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Bat-Pod (5004590) which had a run of only 750 sets. Hopefully there are other opportunities to get a hold of this set in the future, preferably in a more larger quantity.

The Toys That Made Us LEGO Promo Clip

A few days ago, I reported that The Toys That Made Us will be returning to Netflix on May 25 which includes episodes covering Transformers, LEGO, Hello Kitty, and Star Trek. There is now a promo clip of the LEGO episode coming out of Nerdist which features a little bit about the LEGO Space and Castle sets. In the clip, we also see Adam Reed Tucker, David Robertson, and fellow San Diegan Bruno Todd talk about the sets as well. It looks to be a pretty exciting episode and I can’t wait to watch it.

The Toys That Made Us Returns May 25 Including LEGO Episode

It has been announced that The Toys That Made Us will be returning to Netflix on May 25, 2018. There will be four episodes that will be coming which includes Transformers, LEGO, Hello Kitty, and Star Trek. Yes that’s right, we’re finally going to get to see the LEGO episode that was teased about a few months ago. There’s no details on what the episode will consist of but it’ll probably feature some AFOLs from Bricks LA from earlier this year as well as some footage from Billund. It was stated in a comment on my previous post about the show that the LEGO episode will focus on things that previous LEGO documentaries didn’t focus on. Whatever that means, it’ll be exciting to see what that could be.
