LEGO Ideas Moments in Space Winning Model Controversy

LEGO Ideas Moments in Space

The LEGO Ideas Moments in Space winner was announced a few weeks ago but when you first look at it, you wouldn’t think there would be some controversy behind it. As you can see above, the winning entry was a coin-operated space shuttle by mjsmiley that you can probably find in front of a supermarket or a convenience store.

This is where the controversy comes in or it may just be a big coincidence and people are looking too much into it. Samuel over on the Brickset Forums had been providing members of the forum with instructions for the 2016 LEGO Brand Manager Retail Conference build which is also a coin-operated shuttle, shown below. As you can see, they do have some similarities and the creator has stated that they’ve never seen the Retail Conference build before.

I decided to take a little time after the announcement to see what people were saying about it. I honestly don’t know if the build was intentionally ripped it off or not but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt however, others are still skeptical on the forums and on social media. I think it’s a cute little build that I’m looking forward to getting as a gift-with-purchase sometime next year. Plus I doubt that LEGO themselves didn’t forget about a set they’ve released for the retail side of the company. For now, I think it’s a legit entry to the contest with some creative differences in a similar building style.

LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) Price Reported to be Around 179.99 Euros

There still hasn’t been any information about the LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) set since it was announced that it would be become an official set until now. A user on Reddit has reported that the set will be 179.99 Euro/829.99 PLN which is equivalent to about $199.99 USD. This will make the LEGO Voltron set the most expensive one for the LEGO Ideas theme.

Because of the rumored price point, we can expect that it will have the most pieces in a LEGO Ideas set considering how big it will be with the five lions. For me personally, I love Voltron and if you somehow found my personal Instagram, you’ll see that I collect a variety of Voltron toys and I’ve been very anxiously waiting for the reveal of the set. The price point won’t probably deter me from picking it up, maybe even two, to display it both in lion mode and in combined mode, however it also may not appeal to others because of the high price point. Since it may be a summer or fall release, hopefully we get to see it at San Diego Comic Con since it’ll be a very worthy set to be on display there.

LEGO Ideas Tron (21314) Releasing in April

The Italian March/April 2018 LEGO Store promotional booklet has been released and on the back of it, it shows that the LEGO Ideas Tron (21314) will be released in April. There hasn’t been any details of the set ever since it was announced as the next official LEGO Ideas set. Since Tron will be released in April, it looks like the reveal won’t be long so stay tuned for that.

Thank you to Andrea from Mattonito for the heads up.

LEGO Ideas Moments in Space Winner Announced

LEGO Ideas Moments in Space

The LEGO Ideas Moments in Space contest was a really popular one and LEGO has announced the winner and the model that will be turned into a Gift with Purchase set in the near future. And the winner is…Cosmic Rocket Ride! (Coin Operated) by mjsmiley. I had a feeling that this model would be chosen as it had lots of appeal and the LEGO judges felt the same way. You can check out the judging breakdown and the rest of the runner up builds as well an honorable mention winner in the link above. Congratulations to the winner and I’m excited to see how LEGO converts it into a future GWP set.
