LEGO Ideas Voltron – Defender of the Universe Achieves 10,000 Supporters

With very much hype on social media on the past few weeks, the Voltron – Defender of the Universe project by len_d69 is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The project is based on the popular Japanese anime and is personally one of my favorite shows from the 80’s. It contains all five lions including the black for the head and body, yellow and green for the arms, and blue and yellow for the legs.

Voltron is the first project to qualify for the Second 2015 Review Stage. I usually am not biased on LEGO Ideas projects but this is one that I actually want to see released as an official set.

LEGO Ideas Johnny Five Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The Johnny Five project by PepaQuin is the latest one to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The build is based on the robot from the Short Circuit movies back in the 80s. It has about 300 pieces and stands at 7″ tall with various points of articulation including the torso, arms, head, and even the eyebrows. Johnny Five also features a retracting shoulder mount and moving treads.

The project barely makes it into the First 2016 Review Stage and it joins the Fossil Museum, the Gingerbread House, the Modular Train Station, the Old Fishing Store, the Jedi High Council, the Particle Accelerator, the Jurassic Park Visitor Center, and the Rolling BB-8 as the projects that qualify for review.

Custom LEGO Ideas Mazes from the LEGO Community

LEGO Ideas Maze (21305)

The LEGO Ideas Maze (21305)icon has been available for a few weeks now and I’ve been seeing quite a few custom mazes that the community has created. Of course, you have Jason Allemann (JK Brickworks) with the original design as well as a motorized mini golf maze which you can see it going in the video below. Some features of it include a swinging block, the rolling gate, and of course the motorized windmill.

Another one from JK Brickworks is his Legends of the Sea which features an underwater scene filled with many objects like a broken in half sunken ship, ancient ruins, and the Kraken.

Marble Maze (Labyrinth) - Legends of the Sea

On to maze designs that I’ve seen not created by Jason include Benny’s Maze by Marcus_Aurelius2 over on Reddit. It shows a very cool design that is made to look like Benny’s Spaceship.

Another very cool one that I’ve found was a Star Wars scene by Chun-Wei Cheng that includes many microbuilds like the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, AT-AT, and the Death Star.

John Stephens over on Flickr has created a futuristic factory-themed maze that has robotic arms and the dangling chains which I really like.

Factory Frenzy

Over on Instagram, brick_rhodes has created a golf-themed maze. The main feature is that you have to “drive” the ball off the tee. Although not a real maze, per-se, you have to guide the ball while avoiding traps like the sand traps and water.

Finally, we have two mazes by LeeMcG, one of which is a hidden maze. The idea is to … Continue

LEGO Announces LEGO Ideas Revisited

LEGO today has announced in a new initiative that Ideas projects that were rejected during their respective Review Stages to have a second chance in becoming an official set. This new plan is called “LEGO Ideas Revisited” and starting this summer, fans will be able to vote for projects in a head-to-head format similar to the March Madness bracket.

Early on there weren’t that many CUUSOO/Ideas projects that qualified at a certain Review Stage so for the first Revisited voting period, LEGO will be combining a few of the early Review Stages together to create the bracket determined by when they achieved 10,000 supporters. Each voting period will vary depending on the number of projects being considered. For the first bracket, there will be three weeks of voting until the winner is chosen at the end which you can see above.

The first bracket pits the Winchester – Shaun of the Dead, Eve Online Rifter, and The Legend of Zelda against each other with the winner going up against outcome of the Modular Western Town, UCS Sandcrawler (even though we already have one), and Thinking with Portals! matchup.

After the winner is chosen, the LEGO Jury will again deliberate to see if that particular project will become a set. It will go through the same rules as before so nothing has changed there. Check out the full press release below.

The model uses only official LEGO parts including the Star Wars Planet shells as the body. The head is able to stay upright with magnets. The project also proposes a base station that is able to show the rolling ability with a crank.

LEGO Ideas Maze (21305) Review

LEGO Ideas Maze (21305)

When LEGO announced that the Maze (21305) would be the next released LEGO Ideas set, there was a mixed reaction from fans. Some loved the nostalgia of the old school wooden Labyrinth Marble Maze game including me while others felt that another project would have been a better choice. LEGO has graciously sent us a review copy of the Maze and here is my official review of the set.
