LEGO CUUSOO Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover Next Official Set

The results of the Fall LEGO Review has been announced and the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover by Perijove will be the next offical LEGO CUUSOO set. On November 25, 2011, NASA sent the rover to Mars to study the planet. Perijove is a mechanical engineer that worked on the actual Curiosity Rover at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He created the CUUSOO set to further the educational outreach of the Rover’s mission to the Red Planet.

The Curiosity Rover went up against the UCS Sandcrawler by mb_bricks and Thinking with Portals! by Brickthing and Team Jigsaw. The product development is still in progress so there’s no pricing or availability as of this time however, Joe Meno from BrickJoural is at Brickworld Chicago 2013 and he notes that the set will be available in January 2014. The Curiosity Rover will be the fifth official LEGO CUUSOO set.

For Portal fans, The LEGO Jury is still looking into the possibility of also releasing the set. This is the first time that LEGO CUUSOO may release two sets from the same seasonal review session. There’s no decision yet on if Thinking with Portals will pass the review or not.

Results of the Fall 2012 LEGO® Review

We’re excited to share the results of the Fall LEGO® Review. In September, three LEGO CUUSOO projects entered the second quarterly review period for projects that successfully reach 10,000 supporters. These three projects—the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover, UCS Sandcrawler™, and Thinking with Portals!™—have been being considered for production by the LEGO Review

LEGO CUUSOO Female Minifigure Set Achieves 10000 Supporters

The Female Minifigure Set by Alatariel is the latest project to reach 10000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO. With the lack of female minifigures in the LEGO world, Alatariel took it upon herself to design more female minifigures and place them in LEGO Town and City settings. Each minifigure is paired with a corresponding setting on a 6×4 base plate.

The project was created on April 30, 2012 and reached 2500 supporters on June 4, 2013. With the help of social media including Facebook and Twitter, the project gained 7500 more supporters in just 6 days. GlenBricker has provided an in-depth analysis on how the project reached their goal in a short amount of time.

Congratulations to Alatariel for reaching 10000 supporters and showing that female minifigures also play a big role in the LEGO world. Below is the official LEGO comment:

Congrats on 10,000 Supporters, Alatariel!

2013.06.11

Congratulations, Alatariel, and all supporters of the Female Minifigure Set project, for reaching 10,000 supporters in a whirlwind of support this past week. Thanks also for updating your proposal to recommend we focus consideration on the three science-based vignettes.

We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.

More LEGO Minecraft Sets To Be Released?

LEGO Minecraft

Hungarian site, KockaMania, is reporting that there will be two more LEGO Minecraft sets to be released in the future. There’s no official announcements about this yet about the details of the sets or release dates as of this writing so we’re just going to treat this as rumors for now.

  • LEGO 21105 – Minecraft II
  • LEGO 21106 – Minecraft III

With the first Minecraft (21102) set on LEGO CUUSOO gaining enough supporters in a very short amount of time, LEGO knew that they had a success on their hands. After the release of the sets on the retail market, LEGO had quickly sold out their initial 10000 set inventory for a period of time. We would sometimes find them at online retailers but they ran out of stock after finding out about them. LEGO then announced that they will be producing more sets to cover the demand and right now, the set is still available on Shop@Homeicon. Now we hear that there may be new sets to add to the initial set. This also means that Minecraft will be the first set on CUUSOO to have additional sets which we’re excited to see. This possibly opens the door to other LEGO CUUSOO projects that have passed the review stage to have more expansion sets in the future instead of being a one-and-done kind of thing.

If you’ve ever played League of Legends before, you’ll probably recognize Baron Nashor and this project captures the essence of it including the champions. The Raid on Baron Nashor joins the Mini Shop Series and the Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale as the sets that will be reviewed this summer and could potentially be a future LEGO set. Congratulations to Addam for this achievement!

The League of Legends of Lego – The Raid on Baron Nashor project now becomes the highest supported project on CUUSOO. Below is the official statement from LEGO:

LEGO CUUSOO Mini Shop Series Achieves 10000 Supporters

The Mini Shop Series by Pekko has become the latest project to achieve 10000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO. It is the first project to qualify for the 2013 Summer Review stage. The project was just short of a year on CUUSOO’s website but patience might have just paid off. There are currently several shops that were proposed but LEGO might have to focus on just model when it hits the review stage. The proposed price for the Mini Shop Series is $19.99 and would use the old-school format of the set being on 8×16 baseplates. Another feature is that if LEGO decides to produce more shops, they are able to connect to other shops. Congratulations to Pekko on this great achievement and the amount of support the Mini Shop Series received the past few months. Below is the official LEGO comment on the project.

The Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale by BrentWaller now becomes the most supported project on LEGO CUUSOO.

Congratulations on 10,000 Supporters, Pekko!
