Last week, we got the official box art image of the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21038) set which was delayed in its release. That box art will no longer be used and there’s some new information from Promobricks at the 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair that the set has now been pushed back to a fall release. This is because the set will be redesigned to remove the Mandalay Bay Hotel and replace it with another building due to the events that happened at the hotel last year.
What building would you like to see replace the Mandalay Bay Hotel in the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21308) set?

I’m not into the skyline sets, and I’m not a Vegas guy, so I wouldn’t have bought this set regardless, but I was surprised that they included Mandalay Bay. Personally, I’d just scrap this whole set for a few years.
The set was already designed, packaged, and ready for release when the shooting happened. It was out of LEGO’s control at that point and they needed to make the change.
I do realize that. But the set wasn’t announced until well after the tragedy. I would have just shelved it altogether instead of announcing it and then announcing that it would be redesigned.
LEGO didn’t *need* to change anything, and this strikes me as weird move. Either scrap the set entirely or leave it as is. Pretending the Mandalay Bay Hotel simply doesn’t exist doesn’t help anyone.
Again, it’s not up my alley, but Mandalay Bay is, by far, the most interesting part of that set (from an architectural standpoint.)
“Weird”? It’s being done out of respect for the dozens of people killed by a gunman who shot them from the hotel. This does not mean that anyone is “pretending the Mandalay Bay Hotel simply doesn’t exist.”
I understand this is an attempt to show respect, but I don’t see that that’s what it achieves. Prior to this announcement, this set had nothing to do with the shooting. It simply included a number of iconic Las Vegas landmarks. Now, it’s inexorably linked by intentionally excluding one of the most prominent landmarks on The Strip.
Thank you – exactly!
I wonder if they’ll take out Wynn also.
They could easily use The Excalibur.
This would be an excellent choice, what with the castle theme.
Well you have the famous fountain whatever it’s called and then also that pirate ship show they do. I’m surprised they don’t include a great looking model of a casino and have it actually look like a casino. I don’t know too much about Las Vegas since I’ve only been a few times but they could do a better job with this set. Proud of Lego for redesigning after being ready for release due to the events of last year.
MGM Grand and/or Excalibur. I just realized looking at the box art, it’s the hotels at the ends of the Strip.
Bunch of easily offended people.
This has to be the dumbest attention seeking behavior Lego has done yet. Just release it and stop making a bigger deal out of it by altering a toy model! They could revamp some other features on this set as it seems to lack that ‘Architecture’ feeling anyhow…PASS

You should let the people of Las Vegas decide, we are Vegas strong! We didn’t let something like this Define us as a city. We are stronger than ever after what happened on October 1st. These comments on Facebook about what you guys are doing speak for themselves. Mandalay Bay wasn’t shooting at people it was a deranged psychopath. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7ee1e237a2930bed9563c431d5fe928e54ad563a84f262d8e45221d2be59a584.png

Maybe they could have just kept the set the way it was, and donated profits of it to victims of the shooting? That way, LEGO wouldn’t have to change a thing, save money, and get good PR for doing so? But I agree with what someone else said – this set doesn’t really fall in line with the other skyline sets. When I first saw it, I was very disappointed. I hope they add Excalibur or Caesar’s (which are more iconic of the city anyway), and they retool whatever that mess is on the far right of the set. Ugh.
Remember when they released the Marina Bay Sands set under the Architecture theme, and people threw fit over the fact that they were releasing a set based on a casino?
Bellagio with fountain!
