For 2021, LEGO has released a new subtheme for the LEGO BrickHeadz line which are the Pets which features some animals that are popular as pets but in brick form. The first one that I’ll be taking a look at the German Shepherd (40440). It has 247 pieces and retails for $14.99 and it has the German Shepherd as #118 and the Puppy as #119.
Like with all other BrickHeadz sets, the foundation uses the bricks with studs on the side so that details can be added on all four sides. The front of the German Shepherd has a sand-green bandana while the other sides uses some tan cheese slopes for the fur. The hind legs are on hinges so they are able to open and close while it is sitting.
The Puppy has a similar foundation but it actually uses some 1×1 bricks with studs on the side since it is smaller. It does have a sand-green collar and the head shows it with a tongue sticking out.
They both sit in a red basket that is decorated in the front with either paws or bones decorations which are stickers. I will say that both dogs don’t sit well on the jumpers and will tend to fall off with a simple touch. I recommend modifying it to add more jumpers so there’s more clutch power under the dogs.
Overall, these new LEGO BrickHeadz Pets sets are pretty cute and the German Shepherd (40440) is in every way that. They are very simple builds and didn’t take much time to complete. Even at $14.99, I think the price point is a bit high and $12.99 would have been a better price.
