LEGO Classic Blue Baseplate (10714) Returning in 2018

LEGO Classic Blue Baseplate (10714)

It looks like the LEGO Classic Blue Baseplate (10714) will be making its return in 2018. There are now official images of the popular baseplate on LEGO’s servers and will be available again starting next year after the 620 version from a few years ago was aburptly retired at the end of 2014. I know a lot of builders have been wanting to get it to do water layouts but don’t want to pay secondary market prices for them. I know it’s not that interesting but there are a lot of LEGO fans who would definitely welcome the return of the Blue Baseplates.

    OMGosh!
    This is awesome!!
I’m more excited about this than half the new sets announced for 2018!
Not sure what that says about me or TLG…

hope this is ‘blue’ and not ‘dark blue’ ‘light blue’ etc like they did with Green. feels like they have to take one of the other plates away from us now.

My guess is tan is gone. But most of the colors will be on Bricks and Pieces for about $8.

funny, never thought to look for them there. thanks for the tip.

Sure thing. I bought a red one there for like $9. They had a bunch of others too but that was a year ago. We’ll see what they have when it reopens in a month.

That would suck. Blue and tan pair so well together.

I seem to remember LEGO having tan, then bringing back blue, no tan, then tan comes back and blue is removed. But I might be mistaken with that.

So, what, a little super-long-term wave action? Waxing and waning tide?

Haha. Pretty much. The tan baseplate is 30% off at S@H in Europe so I would guess that it is being retired again. So the cycle continues.

I know I will get hell for this but frankly LEGO is so annoying with the baseplates, and the cost, that I’m fine with knockoffs.

Honestly they should do most of the main colors and have them available at least online. (in full and half). I remember as a kid this used to be the one big stumbling block to expanding my worlds.

You can actually buy this from Bricks & Pieces. I bought it a few weeks ago for under $7. They actually have a lot of the 32×32 baseplates in different colors.
