LEGO has officially revealed their latest seasonal Direct-to-Consumer set with the LEGO Creator Winter Village Winter Toy Shop (10249). You may be thinking, didn’t LEGO release a Winter Toy Shop before. The short answer is yes with set 10199 back in 2009. However, this version of the set is for fans who either missed out on the first one or are looking for an updated Toy Shop.
The new Winter Toy Shop (10249) will contain 898 pieces and retail for $79.99. Although it looks very similar to the old one, there are some new pieces including some printed sign pieces, minifigure faces, and so on.
The set will be available early for LEGO VIP members on September 16 and to the general public in October. Check out the full press release, images, and designer video below.

hi allen, pretty much a reissue of 10199. nice set but too soon for our 1st reissue of the winter theme. even the designer called it a, “new and improved version”.
I agree. Maybe this is the beginning of LEGO reissuing older sets.
this is one of the few themes that people look forward to each year because a new design is issued to continue the annual expansion. Lego dropped the ball big-time. i fully understand the popularity of 10199 but we sorta had a “toy shop” last year. additionally, there are so many other buildings to design with a winter flare (gas station, grocery store, restaurant, bed & breakfast, holiday tree farm, etc…).
Winter Train Station.
Beginning? They’ve reissued sets in the past under the name LEGO Legends.
I’ve almost paid well over the odds for this on eBay so many times so glad I didn’t. Maybe the rumoured corner building is going to be a remade, I was really hoping for a winter train.
Does anyone think there is hope for Santa’s workshop to come back into stock on shop@home?
Last year they carried the previous year’s Winter Market, so there’s a decent chance, I would have thought.
Excited for myself as I haven’t dropped money on the previous version, but what sign is recreating a set like this sending to people who resell sets on the secondary market?
I must admit I am very disappointed about this. I have been looking forward to hearing and seeing what the new set would be like. It just seems such a shame that it’s the same shop from before . I don’t think I will be paying that sort of money just to get a new sign and a few odd differences .
That’s alright, it’s meant for people like me who couldn’t get the previous set.
I understand, but I wonder why they couldn’t do a new one. Seems odd, but maybe they want more people to start collecting them. I presume they will do some smaller Christmas sets like they have done in the past few years to complement the main set as free items if you spend over £50
Well, that’s disappointing.
I had to do a side by side comparison after reading the comments here. It is I’d say 98% identical, I thought there was some exaggeration going on, but people have been downplaying the similarity if anything. That all being said, I can’t wait to add this to my collection having missed out the first time. I also am interested in the possible lowering in price of the original on the secondary market, but I don’t want that one.
IMHO this is a total let down.
It looks good for a standalone set. I missed out on last year’s Santa Workshop though, so I’m hoping that will be available on SAH. Back to this set though, it actually looks pretty small. The Christmas tree is like half the set!
I see both sides of this. It’s great that they brought back a set for
builders that missed it when first released.
But for the builders and collectors like me that have been collecting
since the release of the train set. This was very disappointing.
If they were lost for new ideas but if they wanted to reissue a set they should
have considered the 10173 Holiday Train. Now that would make everyone happy even if they already own the train.
I will be adding the 31038 Changing Seasons (winter cottage) set to my winter village collection.
Suggestion for next year.. Winter Train Station.
