LEGO has just released a new LEGO Star Trek set with the Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Bridge (11385) to expand on the theme that started last year. This new diorama style set has 1,701 pieces and retails for $199.99.
Minifigures
There are eight minifigures in the set including Christine Chapel, Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Spock, James T. Kirk, Nyota Uhura, Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Pavel Chekov, and Hikaru Sulu.
Christine Chapel has on the blue science uniform with skirt printing on the legs. She has a double-sided head with smiles on both sides. Her accessories include a bowl of Vulcan plomeek soup.
Leonard “Bones” McCoy also has the blue science uniform and has plain dark pants. His double-sided head shows a stern look on one side and a scared look on the other. His accessories include a printed communicator and a syringe.
Spock is the last of the science division minifigures in the set. His double-sided head shows stern looks on both sides and only his eyebrows are slightly different. His Vulcan ears are molded on to his hair piece. His accessories include the printed communicator and a satchel.
Captain James T. Kirk has on the yellow command uniform. His double-sided head shows him with a confident smile on one side and an angry Expression on the other. His accessory is a printed tribble.
Nyota Uhura has the red operations uniform and also has skirt printing on the legs. She only has a single-sided head showing her smile and there’s also printing of her headset as well.
Montgomery “Scotty” Scott is the other operations engineer with the red uniform. His double-sided head shows him with a quizzical look on one side and a concerned expression on the other. His accessory is a dilithium crystal converter.
Pavel Chekov has the yellow outfit and his double-sided head shows him with a confident smile on one side and a scared look on the other.
Lastly we have Hikaru Sulu who has a very generic look to him and he only has a single-sided head with a smirking expression.
Build
The Enterprise NCC-1701-D Bridge (11385) is a diorama type build with different areas of the ship that can connect to a single layout. It has a nice color combination of gray and orange with some blue throw in.
There are four personnel stations each with their stickered viewscreens. In the center of the room is the captain’s chair and central command station. The captain’s chair can rotate a full 360 degrees so they can see all of the screens.
The center console uses a lot of stickers for the screens. The astrogator panel can be removed to reveal a tribble hanging out inside.
As for the personnel stations, they’re pretty much built the same way for all of the. The screens use stickers while the panels and buttons are printed pieces (sigh of relief). There are some Easter eggs on the screens with one having vital scans of the Gorn.
On the far left side, there’s a large viewscreen that connects to the main part of the build. There’s a large sticker showing what appears to be the Klingon Kor. These large stickers are one of most annoying ones to put on.
Between two of the consoles, there is one spot for the turbo lift. The door is connected with a Technic mechanism on the back. When you flip the lever down, the doors open up. It’s simple but when you look at it from the side, the whole mechanism is just there with nothing remotely hidden.
On the back side of the bridge, there’s some additional minor detailing. One of the panels has Sulu’s foil clipped on from season 1 episode 4 The Naked Time.
One of the walls has a slew of accessories from the show including the Vulcan lipras, trident scanner, and a Vulcan lute.
The other end of the bridge has a small armory with some phasers. These are new molds that were specially made for this set.
There’s also these colored gribbling panels for interior detailing made up of red, yellow, and blue pieces.
Lastly we have probably the most colorful part of the whole build which is the transporter room. It connects to the most right part of the build using a Technic pin.
This is the part of the set with the most sticker because every detailing see here uses stickers. The most annoying ones here are the transporters themselves and on the back wall. Just those two are already 14 stickers already. Plus add on more for the transporter pads, the control panel, and the galaxy map, and the room sign. In total, there are 29 of them just in this room.
On to the actual features, you can “transport” some of the crew using the splat gear mechanism on the back. You can turn it and it’ll spin the crew away like they have been transported to a distant planet.
The last function is the bar on the right side. Push it in and the screen on the front will pop off to reveal two more tribbles inside the wall.
Results
Overall the LEGO Icons Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Bridge (11385) is a very mixed bag for me. The build itself seems disconnected and extremely fragile. When I was moving it around to take pictures, stuff kept falling off left and right. I think a larger scale of the bridge itself would’ve been better and just leave out the viewscreen and transporter room.
The other thing that I didn’t like about the set is the sheer amount of stickers used. In total there are 44 of them which is on the very high end. There’s also a good amount of printed pieces for the control panels and the tribbles but I don’t think they offset the stickers.
The price of $200 is also on the high end but you do have a good amount of the Enterprise crew in minifigure form which Trekkies may look past if they’re fans of The Original Series. Honestly for what you get, I’d hold off until there’s a decent sale on it.
