I don’t think this is a viable option. Mel Brooks asked George Lucas for permission to make this movie and Lucas gave it with the qualification that there would be no merchandising allowed. That is why Spaceballs the flamethrower or any of the other possible merchandise never was made. Maybe Lego can get around it since they have Star Wars rights, but I bet this stops it dead in its tracks. Too bad, I totally would have bought it.
I do not think Lucas will give a flying fig anymore as Im not sure he still has any licensing rights or if he gave all of that to Disney as well (my guess is he did). As Disney is already in partnerships with LEGO I can see it getting approved, but not sure if LEGO would still do it or not.
I will bet you a brick bank that this does not make it through. Licensing for spaceballs is not an option and will stop it in its tracks. Lucas sold the rights to Disney with open merchandising for all the new films, but he holds the rights to the original 6.
IMO If it does not get made as a set it will not be because of some licensing thing with Lucas. I seriously doubt he would really care if the Winnebago was made as a Ideas set (what is somewhat a limited set compared to a dedicated LEGO line as well). Back when Spaceballs was made and SW was in a bit of a lull, perhaps. Is anything possible? Sure, but I have a hard time believe that even Lucas would be so petty to say no way.
