LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) Available in February in the US

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235)

I have the February 2018 LEGO Store Calendar and one of the main promotions for the month is the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) set. Apparently for this year, it is not an Asian country exclusive as we will be able to get it from February 16-28 with a purchase of $88 or more, while supplies last. The Dog joins a number of previous animals that have been released that are from the Chinese zodiac.

Coincidentally, February 16 is Lunar New Year so it’s nice to see that LEGO has also decided to celebrate the event with this set here in the US. As for the purchase price of $88, the number 88 symbolizes fortune and good luck in Chinese culture. I am very looking forward to the LEGO Year of the Dog set as I am born on this zodiac animal and don’t have to resort to the secondary market to get a copy of it.

The number ‘8’ symbolizes fortune in Chinese culture (the word for ‘8’ sounds very close to the word for ‘fortune’, just as the word for ‘4’ sounds close to the word for ‘death’), and repeated use of that digit magnifies its significance, which is why Beijing suddenly went from not caring much about the Olympics to throwing everything at they had at securing the Olympics that started on 08/08/08 at 8:08:08pm (Beijing time), to suddenly not caring much about them again.

The only significance I’ve ever heard of for the number ’88’ (besides sports and racing) is that neo-nazis use it because the 8th letter of the alphabet is H, which is the first letter of the two words used in the Nazi salute.

But I’m sure this has more to do with the fact that $8 is _way_ too low a threshold for doing any sort of GWP set.
